The Western Cape region
The Western Cape is an area of great beauty and variety. Its climate is Mediterranean, with warm dry summers and variable winters. The area extends from the Cape peninsula, up the West Coast towards Namibia, to the wine regions in the East and along the coast to the Garden Route, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. These areas are all within reach of Cape Town itself, making the city a perfect base from which to explore. It is quite a different experience to much of Southern Africa.
The area experiences very warm summers, with occasionial breezes, but even the winter periods can be very pleasant. Much is said about Cape Town winter rains, but these can give way to lovely sunny weather even in July and August, the quieter months.
The area offers a wonderful display of flora and forna. Western Cape is famous for its flowers and gardens, but there is also tremendous land and marine life. Even in Cape Town itself, one can often see whales and dolphins from the shore line.
For outdoor pursuits, there is hiking, golf, diving, sailing, kite-surfing...you take your pick!
The Western Cape really has everything!
Cape Town / Hout Bay area
Hout Bay is a stunning location. It is an enclosed valley, surrounded by national parks and mountains at the far side of Table Mountain, with huge variety of life.
Hout Bay has excellent restaurants, beaches, and bars but also manages to retain a strong natural feel and a close community. There is a working fishing harbour. Boat trips leave from the harbour for Seal Island and the world famous surf location, the Dungeons! The village centre has a good range of shops and amenities, everything that you will need during your stay.
Hout Bay is only 20 minutes away from the centre of Cape Town and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. It is situated on the Atlantic Seaboard. It is a short drive to Llandudno beach, one of Cape Town’s finest, and to Camps Bay.
Hout Bay is 10mins to the famous Kirstenbosch Gardens, the Constantia wine route and vineyards, most of which have their own restaurants and excellent wine tasting. Hout Bay is a short drive to the expansive Noordhoek beach via Chapman’s Peak drive, and the east coast of the Cape peninsula. Cape Point is 45 minutes drive.
Hout Bay really is in a perfect location for a stay in Cape Town. It has just the right mix – close enough to town for the nightlife, but in its own natural haven.
