Home description
This lovely apartment is in the ideal place for you to experience Cape Town at its best. It's a chic and historic part of the city where some of the properties date back centuries and have been sensitively restored so that none of the magic is lost. The apartment itself has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a spacious lounge and kitchen area and a patio from where there's a stunning view if the iconic Table Mountain. And when it gets too hot you can cool down in the pool.
Walk just five minutes down the street and you'll find the Cape Quarter, an Italian style Piazza with not only a great Italian restaurant but also one of South Africa's best sushi joints and a lovely South African eatery where you can get your first taste of game, washed down with one of the many great wines from the local wine country.
At night the area is a magnet for Cape Town's trendy set. They spill onto the pavement at Cubana's (attracting the young and hip) and Manhattans (a popular bar within walking distance with live entertainment twice a week). For the night owls the Bronx Club on Somerset Road (again walking distance) stays open til dawn.
During the day there's an endless list of things to do: Take a tour of the winelands of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, spend a day at one of the gorgeous beaches (Camps Bay, Clifton and many more), shop at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or for some serious retail therapy Canal Walk is a fifteen minute drive away.
Then there's the 'must do' list. Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held for 26 years, is a fascinating insight into the country's past. You can catch the ferry just ten minutes from the apartment. For the best view, take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain and catch a least one sunset over Camps Bay.
There's so much to do in Cape Town you'll never want to leave!

The Western Cape region
The Cape Peninsula has a long and eventful history. Prehistoric people first left their mark here more than 600,000 years ago and traces of the tools of these Early Stone Age hunter-gatherers have been found in a wind-scoured depression near the Cape of Good Hope. The Middle Stone Age inhabitants (dating from 200,000 to 40,000 years ago) also left evidence of their life on the Peninsula. There are about six sites where artefacts, including scrapers and fragments of worked stone, dating from this period have been found and more than a 100 sites where signs of Late Stone Age habitation (from about 21,000 years ago) is evident. The San (or Bushmen) hunter-gatherers relied on the seashore for most of their food and are known colloquially as the strandlopers or beachwalkers. Middens (prehistoric refuse heaps) created by the strandlopers are found in a number of caves in the park and reveal a great deal about their lifestyle. About 2000 years ago the Khoikhoi migrated from the north, displacing the San, bringing with them their herds of cattle and sheep. It was the Khoikhoi who were the dominant tribe when the Europeans sailed into Table Bay.
On April 6, 1652, the Dutchman, Jan van Riebeeck, stepped ashore at Table Bay tasked with establishing a refreshment station for the Dutch East India Company and their ships that sailed the route to the Dutch East Indies.
A fort (the castle) and gardens were established at the foot of Table Mountain. A viticulture industry was initiated and land was granted to settlers to grow crops. And so began European settlement at the Cape.
Cape Town / Waterkant Village area

Five Flies - modern cuisine in a fabulous building Tokara's - in the Winelands Bukhara's - probably one of the best Indian restaurants in the world Cafe Manhattan for great steaks and burgers Tank for sushi Savoy Cabbage for game
You'll need to book these places in advance. They're good and therefore very popular with those in the know.
How to get there
Cape Town has a great international airport and most of the world's big airlines fly there. For direct flights from the UK, British Airways, South African Airways and Virgin Atlantic have up to two flights a day. Most of the national European carriers also fly direct and there are flights from the US with Delta and South African Airways.
If you can't get a direct flight then you could fly to Johannesburg and connect with a no frills carrier like Kulula.com to Cape Town.
The apartment is 30 minutes in a taxi from the airport. Or you can quite easily pick up a rental car at the airport and drive into town. The roads are great and it's a right-hand drive country like the UK.
