The Western Cape region
Marina da Gama is a suburb built around the waterways of the Greater Zandvlei Wetlands Reserve about 2 kms from the golden beaches of Muizenberg on the False Bay Coastline. Muizenberg is a safe bathing area and famous for surfing and is situated at the foot of Muizenberg Peak, which is part of the Table Mountain chain of mountains stretching to Cape Point.
Marina da Gama is a very peaceful area, with great bird life (a pair of fish eagles live in the Estuary and flamingoes have returned to the area), where most residents have non motorised boats like pedaloes and canoes to explore the waterways. It is often said that one immediately feels on holiday when visiting the area, even for a day. A very high percentage of sunny days are experienced in Marina da Gama, even when the weather is inclement elsewhere.
From here one can explore the Cape Point route from Muizenberg to St James, trendy Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, historic Simonstown, visiting the penguins of Boulders Beach before reaching Cape Point - a wonderfully scenic drive.
Restaurants and coffee shops abound in Muizenberg and especially in Kalk Bay, which is only a 10 minute drive away.
Golf courses are found in nearby Clovelly and Westlake, Silvermine Nature Reserve offers many hikes and the wine farms of Steenberg and Constantia are a few kilometers away. There is a yacht club on the other side of the estuary.
