The Western Cape region
The Cape Peninsula has a 'Mediterranean' climate and it is warm enough to enjoy the beaches and swimming all the year round. The peninsula offers many beaches on both False Bay and the Atlantic side, some great for surfing and others more tranquil and suitable for young children. There are opportunities for sailing, wind and kite surfing, diving, canoing and sea-kayaking. If you fancy horse riding you can ride along the five kilometre Long Beach or visit wine farms on horseback.

Cape Town / Fish Hoek area
Mountains and nature conservation areas stretch 50 kilometres from Table Mountain in the city itself down to Cape Point and there are many hundreds of hiking, walking and climbing routes to suit everyone from families with young children and elderly folk to the most ambitious climbers. Mountain biking is very popular in the area, there are numerous bike trails in the mountains and bikes can be hired quite cheaply.
The nearby wine-routes of Constantia, Stellenbosch and Franchoek offer not only wine-tasting but spectacular scenery and excellent dining.
Within a couple of hours from Fish Hoek there are several game reserves where you can take a safari trip and see the Big Five, and many more animals, in the wild.
The area is a bird-watchers paradise with many coastal and inland lagoons areas noted for the variety of local and migratory species.
Dining out is very inexpensive in comparison to UK, US and European prices and there are very many excellent restaurants and cuisines to choose from.
