The Western Cape region
The southern-most region of the African continent, the Western Cape is the most popular area for foreign visitors
The weather in January is hot and sunny, an ideal reverse climate from the cold winters of Northern Europe.
The relaxed environment, beautiful scenery and abundance of excellent food and wine are among some of the area's attractions, with names such as Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Winelands rolling off the tongue of those who have never even visited the province.
The are so many wonderful excursions within easy reach of Cape Town. Cape Dutch architecture graces the nearby little towns of Franschoek and Stellenbosch . Words cannot describe adequately the beauty of the Cape Winelands. Ostrich farms provide a fascinating day trip. Mandela's prison on Robben island can easily be reached by boat.
Cape Town, justifiably called the Riviera of Southern Africa is a dynamic, friendly city, in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The backdrop of mountains with 12 peaks called the "Twelve Apostles" together with the famous Table Mountain, often covered with its wispy cloud "tablecloth" provides a spectacular setting within which to explore this fascinating area. The beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay with their white, soft sand are regularly featured in magazines . Although the Atlantic sea in those areas is refreshingly cold, within 45 minutes drive is the warm, crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean at Boulders Beach, which you will share with a multitude of penguins !
You can never be bored in Cape Town, there is so much to see and do and the food and wine is amongst the best in the world. Include a visit the V&A Waterfront, a bustling, lively collection of restaurants shops and bars with live music in the square surrounded by cafes. Plant lovers can spend hours at Kirstenbosch, the renowned botanical gardens. For the energetic, walking up table mountain to the summit will take 4 hours and reward you with breathtaking views and a cable car ride down !
