The Western Cape region
The Western Cape, and Cape Town in particular, is South Africa's most popular holiday destination-voted in the Sunday Times top 10 in the world. The weather during our winter months is at its best, with long sunny days.
The iconic Table Mt. overlooks the city, bay, and the World Hertiage site of Robben Island.
Cape Town is a thriving city with wonderful night-life, shopping and culture.
The scenery in the Cape is spectacular, with mountain ranges, vineyards, long sandy beaches and a completely unspoiled hinterland of charming towns and villages. The Cape has its own floral kingdom, and the fields of flowers of wonderful vivid colours are visible from July to October. Thousands of birds migrate to the Cape for their summer, and whale watching is popular. There is a large and thriving colony of African penguins, and seals abound in the clear waters. There are a growing number of good game parks within easy reach of Cape Town offering game drives, camping, and opportunities to learn more about the San people and their early cave paintings.
The weather, the food and wine, the scenery, the multitude of activities on offer, and most importantly, the local people, offer a holiday opportunity not to be missed.
Cape Town / Melkbosstrand area
Melkbosstrand is a delightful unspoiled seaside village. It is situated 25 minutes from Cape Town's lively Waterfront,15 minutes from Canal Walk- the largest shopping complex in Africa, and is a short drive to a number of well- known wine estates set in beautiful scenery. The house is a short walk to the local beaches.
Eating out at these estates is a favourite pasttime. The famous spring flowers bloom in this part of the Cape, and up the West Coast nearby.
The spectacular and world famous Table Mountain provides a backdrop to the beaches in Melkbos. It is possible to surf, windsurf, skindive and fish in the area, and there is a safe slipway for boats. The long sandy beaches are perfect for long walks.Whale watching is also very popular at certain times of the year.Restaurants are plentiful along the beachfront. The best known is "Orca", possibly the best fish restaurant in Cape Town. It is completely unspoiled, and it is wonderful to sit on the verandah in the evening watching the sun slip into the vivid blue sea.
There are a variety of good shops in the village, including supermarkets, laundries, coffee shops and hairdressers, all a short walk away from the house.
