The Western Cape region
Western Cape Weather and Climate
Overall, the Western Cape climate is typically Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and mild, moist winters and low summer rainfall prevail. Near the coast, summer’s temperature rises from a pleasant low of 15º C to a heart warming 27º C. Inland temperatures are some 3-5º C higher. Coastal winters see the mercury dropping to a mild 7º C at night and rising to a comfortable 18º C by day. Away from the beach, morning wakens to an invigorating 5º C and midday peaks at 22º C.
To many, March and April signal idyllic weather. Summer's heat subsides, the wind settles and autumn casts its brightly coloured mantle over the vineyards, generating red, burnished vistas spreading from the mountain tops to the sea. In keeping with its sunny, tranquil character, a temperate climate with gentle, intermittent precipitation complements the warm summers and mild winters of the Garden Route.
Cape Town and the Western Cape have an extensive legacy. The history of the Cape is one of diversity, change, open-mindedness and acceptance.
The San were the first people to live here more than 20 000 years ago. The arrival of Europeans to the Cape signalled a new direction in our history. The Cape has seen globalisation and Apartheid come and go. Today we celebrate a democracy that is based on one of the most liberal constitutions in the world.
The history of the Cape is recorded in the architecture. Dutch, British and African influences are clearly visible. For a view of our past, visit one of the many museums throughout the Cape. Museums range from the Iziko Museums in Cape Town to the Shipwreck Museum in Bredasdorp in the Cape Overberg. Each museum has something different to offer, a different perspective on the history of the Cape.
Don't forget to visit the variety of galleries. The National Art Gallery in Cape Town is the most well known while visitors may be surprised at the number of private galleries showcasing local artists and photographers.
The Cape has a proud history. This is a history that shows our people's willingness to accept change. We welcome you to come and explore.
We are on the safe Cape Peninsula, approximately 30 min from the International Airport and the City Centre close to 3 Golf Courses ( Clovelly, Westlake and Steenberg) and the Constantia Wine Route.
Cape Point, the famous Chapman’s Peak drive and the Penguins in Simons Town are a short drive a way and you reach Paarl and Franschhoek on a scenic drive around the False Bay in about 1 hour.
Visit Kirstenbosch Garden or explore our great beaches on the False Bay (Indian Ocean) and the Atlantic side.
