The Chateau has been restored to a very high standard and is available for short stays, longer stays , meetings , events ect
It is difficult to imagine a more uniquely or ideally situated property than Chateau Sommesnil which stands in this elevated location above the Caux valley, an area that has been at the heart of some of the most fundamental periods of French and European history spanning back over many centuries.
Easily accessed via the Channel Tunnel and a variety of Channel Ports with the closest, Dieppe, being barely 40 minutes drive, perhaps most significant for many of the visitors and guests is the fact that the heart of Paris can be reached in a speedy 90 minutes by one of the regular direct trains from nearby Yvetot Station.

The charm of the undulating rural countryside around Chateau Sommesnil is enhanced by the remarkable number of diverse chateau estates with their long family histories that surround the village Sommesnil, some being open to the general public whilst others can be visited as guests of Chateau Sommesnil by private arrangement.
Whilst many of the visitors enjoy the peaceful parkland surroundings in the Chateau grounds possibly coupled with walking and bicycling through the nearby Normandie countryside, again by special arrangement, neighbouring estates have agreed to make available a host of country pursuits for those of the guests seeking a greater level of activity including riding, fishing and shooting. The Chateau is 15 mins from the coastline of Normandy with its unspoilt rural beaches.
The closest beaches are the charming Veules les Roses Veulettes sur Mrer Vareggville sur merand St Valery en Caux. At some of these you can buy the fishermen's fresh catch of the day.
There are daily markets in the area at many different local towns, including Doudeville (nearest town), Cany Barville, St Valery, Yvetot, Fauville en caux , Caudebec en caux, Bolbec, Duclair and more.
Cany Barville, just 10 minutes drive, has a lovely lake with water sports and cycling trail. "A Unique Step Into History"
This is the third occasion on which we've stayed at Chateau Sommesnil over recent years, this time enroute to our home in the South of France from the UK. After the hurly-burly of a week with assorted children and grandchildren, the thought of a few days quiet retreat and Normandie cuisine seemed very appealing and so it, yet again, proved to be. The chateau has been delightfully and comprehensively renovated, carefully blending superb decor and style with modern amenities. It is also steeped in history from its early days as a hunting lodge for the Dauphin son of Louis XIII through to a retreat for Rommel when he was in charge of the Channel and Atlantic Defences. A visit to the Chateau Sommesnil website will, I've no doubt, tempt you as it did us.
thank you for your kind words
