Transport:
Kent is easily accessible by road, sea or rail. Indeed, Dover is the closest point to France and remains a hub for ferry travel to the rest
of Europe.
Tourist Attractions:
Canterbury Cathedral
Chartwell, Winston Churchill's home
Deal Castle
Dover Castle
Leeds Castle
Rochester Castle
Coldrum Stones
Brockhill Country Park
This is an area of the UK which contains many walking and cycling routes as well as over 500 years of history.
The Canterbury / Throwley area
The cottage is situated about a mile from the pretty rural village of Throwley. It is next to Faversham Golf Club in the grounds of Belmont Park and the attractive market town of Faversham is within five miles, which has all the amenities of a good sized town including a swimming pool. The cathedral city of Canterbury is about ten miles away.
The cottage is part of the Belmont Estate and all visitors to it will be able to enjoy the wonderful grounds of the main house all the year round. During the summer months (April to September) visitors are able to go round the House at weekends, free of charge.
The area is unspoilt with narrow lanes, many orchards and hop fields, so typical of this area of Kent. There are numerous places to visit from the vineyards of Biddenden to the wonderful Cinque port coastal towns with their mix of smuggling and castles, and of course on your doorstep the Belmont Estate, with its wonderful House and beautiful grounds.
Day trips to France are easy and take as little as 35 minutes. There are many routes to choose from including the channel ports of Folkestone and Dover, the Channel Tunnel or by train from Ashford International, all within a 30 minutes drive of the cottage.

Very lovely cottage in the middle of nowhere it seems. Quiet, space enough for 5 adults. Clean, Nice welcome packet. Milk Orange juice some tea and butter and FUDGE. Not far from Canterbury Ashford, Maidstone, supermarket in Faversham, als lovely town. Cell phone beyond of reach and no telephone connection available, so in case of emergency you have to call the neighbours. And as dutch we were not used to coop with a rayburn, but it works well. |
