Great Higham Oast
About the home
This traditional Oast building has recently been beautifully renovated to make a comfortable and spacious home from home. The building nestles in a quiet location in glorious countryside on the North Downs and yet within just a few miles of motorway connections and the Channel Tunnel for visits to France.
This lovely conversion has been finished to the very highest standard with a bespoke oak and granite kitchen and traditional tiled floor yet leaving many original features, which give the house so much character. The oast overlooks landscaped gardens to the front and rear and shares the use of a heated swimming pool and tennis court.
The rooms themselves are spacious and light with a wonderful open plan kitchen dining and living space with doors onto the sunny south facing patio. In addition this living area has large comfortable sofas and is a lovely room to relax in after a busy day enjoying yourself!
Pets are welcome as long as they behave themselves and there is good mobile coverage at the house.
This is a lovely family house with space and light lots to do right on your doorstep and yet within easy reach of all that Kent has to offer – not to mention both France and London within an hour!
The Oast has been rated 4 Star by Visit Britain.

The South East England / Kent region

Kent is in the South-East of England and consists of many important districts such as Dartford, Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury and Dover.
Arts:
Canterbury inspired Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and William Golding worked in Maidstone.
Transport:
Kent is easily accessible by road, sea or rail. Indeed, Dover is the closest point to France and remains a hub for ferry travel to the rest
of Europe.
Tourist Attractions:
Canterbury Cathedral
Chartwell, Winston Churchill's home
Deal Castle
Dover Castle
Leeds Castle
Rochester Castle
Coldrum Stones
Brockhill Country Park
This is an area of the UK which contains many walking and cycling routes as well as over 500 years of history.
The Canterbury / Faversham area
The house is part of the Torry Hill Estate and holidaymakers will have full use of the estate, its 30 km of woodland paths and bridle paths. On the estate there is an established circular walk through the elegant parkland and along a Victoria carriage drive. In the spring the bluebell woods and blossom from the cherry orchards are a sight to see! There is a riding stable nearby for horse riding and mountain bikes are available for hire together with maps of recommended routes through the estate’s woodland. In addition clay pigeon shooting can be organised by prior arrangement at a cost of £45 per person which includes cost of cartridges - please contact us for further details as this needs to be booked well in advance of your stay.
The county town of Maidstone is 15 miles away to the west with the historic cathedral city of Canterbury within 25 minutes. Access to the Channel Tunnel is at junction 12 of M20 and it can be reached in half an hour - crossings take 35 minutes. Bookings can be made via the link on our website. For day trips to London, there is a regular service every half hour from Sittingbourne which takes about an hour. The North Kent coast is only a few miles away, where the reserves at Elmley and Oare offer some of the best bird watching in the south-east, especially in winter.
Further afield the house is well placed for visits to Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, the naval dockyards at Chatham or a visit to the wonderful medieval castles dotted right along the Kent and Sussex coast (we have more castles in Kent than any other county!).
