Home description

Norton Barn has just undergone a complete refurbishment to offer an extremely spacious home. The proportions are huge with high ceilings, picture windows and stunning views of the lakes and farmland in the valley below. Tucked away at the end of a long track, this house would make a really lovely holiday destination.

The interior has been finished to a high standard with lots of exposed beams and oak flooring adding to the wonderful feeling of space. The furniture is an eclectic mix of styles giving a feeling of stylish comfort with cosy sofas grouped in separate seating areas taking full advantage of the amazing views.

The barn is on two floors and has very flexible accommodation as each floor can be self contained or rented as one large home. The kitchen is finished to the highest of standards with all possible machines and a breakfast bar for a quick snack. Each floor also has more formal dining for that special occasion.

There are five bedrooms, two doubles and two twin rooms plus a family room with a double bed and two singles. In addition there is a sofabed on the first floor. There are two well equipped modern bathrooms; each has marble tiled flooring, walk in shower, bath, WC and wash hand basin.

Outside there is plenty of parking and a large south facing terrace.

The South East England / Kent region

Kent is in the South-East of England and consists of many important districts such as Dartford, Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury and Dover.

Canterbury inspired Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and William Golding worked in Maidstone.

Kent is easily accessible by road, sea or rail. Indeed, Dover is the closest point to France and remains a hub for ferry travel to the rest
of Europe.

Tourist Attractions:
Canterbury Cathedral
Chartwell, Winston Churchill's home
Deal Castle
Dover Castle
Leeds Castle
Rochester Castle
Coldrum Stones
Brockhill Country Park

This is an area of the UK which contains many walking and cycling routes as well as over 500 years of history.

Canterbury area

Harbledown is a village within 2 miles of Canterbury city centre and was traditionally the last stopping place on a pilgrim’s journey to Canterbury. Canterbury is a lovely medieval city with the very best of both worlds! An historic cultural centre with two theatres, open air Shakespeare in the summer months in the stunning grounds of St Augustine’s Abbey, river trips in punts and walking ghost tours of the City originally founded by the Romans.

There are many museums to visit and many historic places to visit with Kent having more castles than any other county in England!

The new Whitefriars shopping development offers a good range of boutiques and high street shops with the many smaller medieval streets surrounding the centre offering individual specialist shops.

For the ‘foodies’, a trip to Whitstable, 5 miles to the north of the city is a must with its tradition of oysters; and of course being the ‘Garden of England’, the organic fruit and vegetables on offer is second to none.

Riding is available at a nearby stables and there are lots of great walks from Norton Barn in the surrounding countryside. Bikes can be hired with several Byways offering excellent off road cycling including the Crab and Winkle way – a lovely cycle ride for all the family between Canterbury and Whitstable – with a beach and ice cream at the other end! Further details indoors:
The interior has been finished to a high standard with lots of exposed beams and oak flooring adding to the wonderful feeling of space. The furniture is an eclectic mix of styles giving a feeling of stylish comfort with cosy sofas grouped in separate seating areas taking full advantage of the amazing views.

The seating on the ground floor is in two areas with sofas in both, one is near the entrance to the barn opposite the kitchen and would be ideal for a chat whilst the food is being prepared and the other is in the very heart of the barn by the glass doors leading to the terrace.

The Barn is entered through enormous glass doors into the cathedral like proportions of the ground floor living space. This is split into areas with a good sized kitchen with all machines including range cooker (gas top, four electric ovens), washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, extractor fan. There is a good sized breakfast bar with stools with more formal dining at a dining table that sleeps 6. If you are renting both halves of the barn the first floor dining table can be moved to make formal dining for 14 on the ground floor.

Further details outdoors:
There is plenty of parking for all and a south facing terrace area to the front of the barn has uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside.

There are particularly spectacular views of the countryside that surrounds the property. On the first floor the owners have taken full advantage of the views with a raised window seat and cosy cushions overlooking the valley. The second seating area at the end of the barn incorporates a sofa bed. There is gas central heating throughout. TV and Sky provided on both upper and lower floors.
