Orions Cottage
About the home
Orions Cottage is a Grade II listed building. It dates from the 1400's when the village was a bustling place built on a hill leading up to the castle (still in private hands today) on one of the main pilgrim routes to Canterbury. The village has now been by-passed and offers a wonderful tranquil spot with one of the most photographed centres in this part of Kent beloved of amateur and professional photographers alike (not to mention the odd TV crew!).

A door leads to the fully enclosed courtyard garden where you can sit and enjoy a chilled glass of wine or beer after a busy day exploring.
A staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor where the natural rush carpeting and warm subdued colours so reminiscent of the ‘shaker’ style enhance this charming cottage. Kent is known as the Garden of England in recognition of its attractive countryside and wealth of historic houses and gardens
Shopping facilities in Kent are plentiful with regular food and craft markets held in many of the towns and villages. There are extensive shopping centres in Bromley, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells and Bluewater ( Europe's largest indoor shopping mall) and the world famous West End of London is easily accessible.
Kent offers superb opportunities for walking and cycling in delightful surroundings, including the North Downs and the High Weald. Knole Park, a magnificent 1000 acre deer park and home to the 16th century Knole House, can be found in Sevenoaks. Other sites of interest in Kent include Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn; Leeds Castle, "The Loveliest Castle in the World", and historic Canterbury Cathedral.
The Canterbury / Chilham area
The medieval village of Chilham is a charming example of a picturesque English village, with its beamed cottages built on the hill leading to a pretty square with a privately owned castle at its heart. The village is within 6 miles of the cathedral city of Canterbury with its many historical buildings, winding medieval streets, variety of restaurants and pubs and a new shopping centre.
There are lakes on the edge of the village offering day and weekly fishing, horse riding stables close by and many wonderful walks through the surrounding countryside together with over two hundred acres of Forestry Commission woodland that surrounds the village.
There are many castles and historic houses to visit in the area including the beautiful and moated Leeds Castle, for gardeners, Sissinghurst Castle and gardens and for those interested in the Second World War, Dover Castle, with its underground operations centre. There are golf courses at nearby Belmont House (open to the public and renowned for its clock collection), and in Canterbury and Ashford.
