The South East England / Kent region
Picture yourself: picnicking with friends and a bottle of wine in a bluebell wood, kite surfing along an exhilarating shoreline, exploring a magical castle with the kids. Feels good? You can visit much of the best of Kent by rail, with the remainder a short cycle, walk or taxi ride away. You can do them all in Kent thanks to its unique blend of countryside, coast and breathtaking historic attractions - all perfect places to relax, refresh, inspire.
Canterbury / Chislet area
Boyden Gate is a rural hamlet between the wonderful medieval city of Canterbury and the trendy seaside town of Whitstable. There are many walks and rides in the area and the neighbouring livery stables are able to offer a full livery service for your horse if required – whether it be a day or a week you are after!
For the fisherman, there is the opportunity to visit two nearby lakes with day fishing for all standards. There are a selection of golf courses within easy reach, a bowling alley in Whitstable and roller skating in Herne Bay.
The coast is about 5 miles to the north with a great mix of olde worlde beach huts and ice cream parlours and up to the minute water sports. Whitstable itself is an eclectic mix of antique shops and cafes and each summer the famous Oyster Festival is a must!
Canterbury is a beautiful medieval city with the cathedral at its heart. There is a large new shopping centre and many individual shops as well making it a popular destination for all.
How to get there
From M25 take A2 (M) towards Faversham and Dover. Take A299 Thanet Way signposted to Ramsgate and Margate and follow this road for approximately 10 miles going past the turning to Whitstable and come off at the junction for Herne and Herne Bay onto A291 towards Canterbury. Go through the village and follow the road through Herne Common turning left into Hicks Forstal Road towards Hoath village. Go through the village of Hoath and past the primary school on your left, into Mill Road. Follow this road turning second right (after the school) into Old Tree Road signposted to Boyden Gate.
