Kent is known as the Garden of England in recognition of its attractive countryside and wealth of historic houses and gardens Shopping facilities in Kent are plentiful with regular food and craft markets held in many of the towns and villages. There are extensive shopping centres in Bromley, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells and Bluewater (Europe's largest indoor shopping mall) and the world famous West End of London is easily accessible.
Kent offers superb opportunities for walking and cycling in delightful surroundings, including the North Downs and the High Weald. Knole Park, a magnificent 1000 acre deer park and home to the 16th century Knole House, can be found in Sevenoaks. Other sites of interest in Kent include Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn; Leeds Castle, "The Loveliest Castle in the World", and historic Canterbury Cathedral.
The Canterbury / Chilham area
This self catering holiday cottage is situated in Chilham, Kent. Chilham is a picturesque beautifully kept Kent village on a hill about 5 miles to the south of Canterbury. The village square is surrounded by beamed medieval Kentish structures and is such a good example of a truly English village, that it has been used many times for photo shoots! In fact the whole village is in a conservation area and has been listed it attracts visits by tourists worldwide. The Kent village of Chilham itself has two public houses; a tea room, post office and gift shop and on the edge of the village a farm shop selling local produce that you can enjoy during your stay at this luxury holiday cottage in Kent. The nearby Kent village of Chartham has a village store.
For public transport near this holiday cottage, the Kent village has both a railway station and bus service between Canterbury and Ashford. (High speed train from Ashford to London takes just 37 minutes). Canterbury itself has a wealth of history to explore and visit being a World Heritage Site.
There is much to do from boat trips on the Stour to ghost walks through the old part of the city at dusk. There are a really good range of restaurants and bars, and many shops and boutiques to explore and its busy cafe society that make this a must during your stay in this self catering holiday cottage in Kent. There is a also bustling farmers market at The Goodshed in Canterbury.
There are many historic sites to visit including Dover Castle, the world-famous Sissinghurst Gardens and the spectacular Leeds Castle, well-known as one of the most beautiful castles in England.
The nearby village of Wye has a bustling Saturday farmers market or you can explore the renowned foodmarket in Canterbury at The Goodshed. For foodies why not take a trip to Whitstable to sample the oysters or buy fresh fish direct from the fisherman at the quay or explore the internationally renowned vineyards that Kent is known for with Biddenden Vineyards only a 30 minute drive away. There are several stunning gardens to visit within an easy reach including Sissinghurst and Great Dixter.
Not far from this holiday cottage in Kent is the hotel complex of Eastwell Manor offering a wonderfully relaxing retreat for spa and beauty treatments for you to make the most of during your stay in Kent. There are also lovely walks from the Kent village through the thousands of acres of Forestry Commission woodland that surrounds Chilham, it is also situated on the ancient Pilgrims Way. For Fisherman there is chalk stream brown trout and course fishing available locally from Mid Kent Fisheries in the village. Chapel Down Vineyard near Tenterden is well worth a tour and tasting of its delicious award winning English wines.

Leave the M20 at Junction 8 – Leeds Castle turn off. Take the A20 towards Ashford/Charing. At the Charing roundabout, turn left up the hill on to the A252 towards Canterbury/Chilham. Go through Challock, and straight over the mini roundabout towards Canterbury. About 4 miles after the roundabout is Chilham.
