Coldrum Stones
Brockhill Country Park
This is an area of the UK which contains many walking and cycling routes as well as over 1000 years of history.
The Canterbury area
Canterbury is a wonderful medieval city, which is surrounded by the original city walls. It has so much to offer the holidaymaker including the Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey, both of which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A whole day can be spent just exploring the Cathedral, Crypt and Cloisters.
The city is best explored on foot with a maze of intriguing side streets and a huge variety of shops, quaint cafes and pubs. The High Street has all the main shops and at one end is the new Whitefriars Shopping Centre – this is fully pedestrianised and a great place to shop till you drop!
Canterbury also boasts a permanent farmer’s market at The Goods Shed; where there is an on site restaurant and wonderful local food can be bought direct from the producers – perfect for your self catering holiday.
Canterbury also offers Historic River Tours, ghost tours, museums and for those that get tired of walking you can hire cycles to discover more for yourself.
Canterbury is also the home of Kent County Cricket Club, which is an award winning ground about a mile from the city centre. There is a Cricket Festival in early August which is very popular with cricket supporters.
For golfers there is an 18 hole golf course about 2 miles from the city centre, and further afield are the links courses at Royal St George’s in Sandwich and Royal Cinque Ports at Deal.
Surrounding Canterbury there are many other attractions - for children the wild animal parks at Howletts and Port Lympne are great locations for days out. There is also the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which is a miniature steam railway which can take you down to the beach at Dymchurch – both children and adults love it!
For garden lovers Kent and East Sussex boasts many famous and beautiful gardens to visit. Gardens include Goodnestone Park Gardens, Mount Ephraim, Great Dixter in Northiam and the famous Sissinghurst Castle Gardens in Sissinghurst. A lovely afternoon can be spent exploring these gardens and enjoying tea and cakes in the tea room afterwards.
With the proximity of the Channel Tunnel and the port of Dover, day trips to France are so easy - you can also take the Eurostar to Paris which only takes 2 hours.
