Home description

Charming modern studio in an ancient building located on cobblestone streets which wind to the top of the hill overlooking the Mediterranean, the old port, and the entire city. The location is superb: located in the 12th century quarter of the city called the Suquet, it is walking distance to all of the amenities: casinos, transportation, restaurants, theater, grocery stores and some of the most elite shopping on the French Riviera. The apartment is updated with all the modern conveniences you need for a comforable stay. As Cannes is very popular in Europe, every language is fluently spoken here.

Our personal representative will greet you and escort you to the apartment. He will also be on hand to assist you with questions during your stay.

Throw open your shutters to greet the rising sun over the east hills in the morning. Your view to the south is of the luxury yachts in the harbor. Meander cobblestoned pedestrian streets lined with lovely shops and restaurants. And wend your way atop the Suquet for incomparable views of the city and visit the old church and museum there as well. A block from the apartment is the Marche Forville, one of the largest covered outdoor markets in all of France.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

This area is commonly known as the French Riviera. Cannes is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. Known for its' sandy beaches (most Mediterranean beachs are rocky!) and trendy shops, Cannes is also a major destination for business conventions often related to the entertainment world.

No need for a car. Local buses are 1/2 block away as is the little electric shuttle which can take you around town. High speed trains to anywhere in Europe are about 8 blocks away. And should you wish to drive into the countryside, there are many car rentals available, the closest is about a block away, just around the corner on rue Clemenceau. On departure, the Nice airport is a 40 minute ride by express bus.

Cannes / Le Suquet area

From Cannes, you can easily visit all of the major attractions on the French Riviera. The city itself has museums, high quality restaurants, shops, boats to the local islands of Ste. Marguerite and St. Honoure. Ste. Marguerite is reputed to have housed the infamous "Man in the Iron Mask", while St. Patrick traveled to Ireland from St. Honoure.

The perfect option to become integrated with the French village life without the high cost and inpersonality of a hotel room. You may avail yourself of any number of excellent restaurants or eat fresh at home daily like the French.

From the Nice airport, take the express bus marked VIA AUTOROUTE directly to the front of City Hall, called the Marie, which is across the parking area from the apartment. Walk up rue Ste. Antoine about 1/2 block, and rue de la Boucherie intersects. #2 rue de la Boucherie is on the left and up about 4 steps on the stairway.

From the Nice train station, it's about 8 blocks walking. Turn right out of the train station and proceed to rue Meynadier. If you follow rue Meynadier, it will dead end right in front of the apartment building.

Further details indoors:
This apartment is fully equipped and is a short walk from the Palais des Festivals and sandy beaches. The salon converts to a bedroom with a queen sized bed. Additionally, there is a stylish divan in the cuisine which can be opened to a single bed. There is a washing machine in the bathroom which is a great convenience and cost saver. Closeby there is also a launderette where they basically handle the clothes for you if you are willing to pay for the service.

For those who like to cook, the apartment has a full oven plus two electric cooktop burners. With the wonderful outdoor market and the reasonable grocery store called Leader Price, we can live as cheaply as home. But it's hard to beat the prices of the sandwich guy just below our window who charges 3,50E for a sandwich adequate for a football player. The street outside is also lined with wonderful French restaurants so you can experiment with many different cuisines and ambiances only steps from your door.

Further details outdoors:
Our apartment is in the heart of the activities in Cannes. There are activities year round in Cannes, many of them staged in the Palais des Festivals. Several ferries travel to the Lehrin Islands daily and take only a few minutes from the Quai St. Pierre. Many of the large yachts in the harbor are chartered to the rich and famous, particularly during the festivals so it's fun to stroll the docks and search the crowds for familiar faces. The docks are public so you can see the yachts closeup. And like Hollywood, the sidewalks are filled with stars dedicated to many world famous actors. Across from the Palais, along the Croisette, are the designer shops. Alongside the Palais, is one of the several casinos to be found in Cannes. And you can walk the entire promenade to the second marina in town which is nearer the Palm Beach area. Public and private beaches abound.

Outside our apartment door is a local artist who often displays his works on the stairway to the top of the Suquet and not far up those stairs is an artist colony called Beaux Arts where many of the local painters and sculptors ply their trades in a garden area overlooking the sea.

Conditions

Our apartment is a favourite for corporate visitors attending the many conventions during the year, including the annual Cannes Film Festival. It is also an ideal location for summer visitors who wish to enjoy the sandy beaches. And the weather, year round is a welcome relief for many Europeans who suffer with cold climates. We have spent time in the area at all times of year, and while the weather cannot be guaranteed, we have had some wonderful periods in winter months as well. The Beaujolais Festival in mid-November and a wonderful animated event when the city itself provides free wine in the park and most of the proprietors of the bars dress up in festive hats and often provide free horsdoevres.
