Le Cannet, also called France's Madeira, is an old historical town between Mougins and Vallauris, on the hill overlooking the bay of Cannes : it has much to offer in terms of artistic life and has been the haunt of famous painters, especially Pierre Bonnard who is buried there in cemetery Notre Dame des Anges (a musée Bonnard will open in Le Cannet in 2009). It is for tourists who want to experience the genuine local life, the historical sites and get a taste of the local folklore in addition to visiting the French Riviera. The owner of the villa is a descendant of the 140 Ligurian families who, in the 15th century, came from Italy at the invitation of the monks of the Iles de Lerins (off Cannes) to cultivate their orange-trees. The genealogical tree on Place Bellevue still bears testimony to the adventure of the foundation of the village.
Cannes area
You can buy anything you need from the small shops on Boulevard Carnot. A pharmacy, small supermarket, the post-office and public library as well as excellent baker's, butcher's, grocer's, hairdresser's are just a few minutes away. If you do not feel like going out to expensive restaurants twice a day you may bring home some gourmet food and relax at home. Buying local products, good bread, cheese and a bottle of wine is often a much better way of enjoying French cuisine and Provençal delicacies than dining out. Needless to say that the villa and its garden offer you much more space than a hotel room. What is more you can wander peacefully and safely in the village's main street, pedestrianised rue Saint-Sauveur with all its Arts and Crafts shops, its fine art galleries and numerous cosy restaurants without forgetting the Place Bellevue wherefrom you will admire the liners moored in the Bay of Cannes. The centre of Cannes can be reached by direct bus in less than twenty minutes for little more than 1€. There is also a taxi rank at the town hall : taxis take you to the Croisette in less than 10 minutes. You may park in the garden. Although the villa is not what you would call 'close to the Croisette', it has a magnificient sea-view from the top floor and is definitely a much better and cheaper experience than staying at a hotel.

Guestbook for CLOS FLEURI
Dear Catherine, We had a wonderful holiday – please pass on our thanks to your father. It felt like a real privilege to stay in what is clearly a much loved home. Mireille and her husband were very helpful and kindly supplied us with local maps which we left in the villa. They also offered to help us with any other information we needed during the our stay. I can’t think of anything else that they or Mme Prosper could have done for us; also your instructions that you previously supplied by email were very helpful and I can’t think of any information that was missing (except that the recycling bin near the villa does not actually accept glass but is the ‘blue and yellow’ sort that accepts almost everything else except glass). We were very happy with the property, it was very spacious (even more so than we were expecting) and we found the larger downstairs bedroom made a perfect nursery for the children & their toys. A very good point for us was the safe and enclosed garden for the children; we could lock the front gates and be quite happy that they could play outside safely without escaping! The newly refurbished shower room upstairs was very nice also. We also found Le Cannet itself a charming place; taking a meal in the square in the evenings was wonderful. The children particularly enjoyed the playground in the park, and the bus service was convenient and cheap. So all-in-all we had an excellent time and will recommend Villa Clos Fleuri. Thank you again for your help and assistance and I hope that we can return for a future holiday the next time we want to head to the Cote d’Azur. Best regards, Bruce
