Comfortable in all seasons. The holiday property is, especially in spring and autumn, an ideal location for walkers and hikers or (experienced) cyclists. It is a wonderful home for people not wanting to stay in a hotel, but needing their own place for privacy. The property is south facing. A large covered porch leads you to the terra cotta tiled terrace, with a variety of areas to enjoy both shade and sun, to relax and to admire the views. The villa offers beautiful views to the surrounding mountains, including Maroma mountain (over 2,000 m high), the hills and the Mediterranean sea. On clear days you can even see the hills of Morocco. We love watching the gorgeous sunsets from the swing sofa on a lower terrace.
Garden furniture and sun beds as well as a nice brick built BBQ area are available.
The tiled private pool measures 7 by 3 metres (careful with children!) with a beautiful outdoor shower. The pool is NOT fenced. Usable from about late April to mid October. (In winter the pool is empty).
The mature garden, with a 200 years old olive tree and lots of flowers, benefits of an irrigation system. The fruits of for example the mandarine, orange and lemon trees are irresistible. The surrounding plots are also full of trees including orange, avocado, olive trees.
The plot is all fenced and the property is approached via a gated entrance. The parking space is suitable for two cars.
Casa La Naranjera is located in the beautiful Axarquía region in southern Spain, northeast of Málaga, in the heart of Andalusia. It is a fertile, always green area. The climate is one of the best in Europe with over 320 sunny days a year. Málaga is just an hour drive by car.
The villa is near the National Park Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama, an impressive mountain range with peaks (walking, hiking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching and so on). It possesses a rich and unique flora and fauna. The National Park is a natural border between the provinces of Málaga and Granada.
The holiday house is at the end of a concrete road with no passing traffic – it is very peaceful and private. Unlike many villas in this area there is no dirt track. A short steep (concrete) part goes down to the villa, at the end of a cul-de-sac. Situated half way between the beautiful white villages Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta both villages are easily reached.
Canillas de Albaida is a 10 minutes walk. Behind our house a path leads you through agricultural terraces to the village. The tranquil white village, with a population of approximately 700, is about 580 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara mountains and offers some little supermarkets, a few bars and restaurants.
Canillas de Albaida is 17 kilometres from the Mediterranean coast of the Costa del Sol (beach, aqua park, golf), about one hour drive from Málaga Airport. A bus connection brings you from Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta to the beach and Malaga several times a day.
The villa is 2 kilometers from Cómpeta, a more touristic place with lots of shops, restaurants and bars.
Day trips: los pueblos blancos (the white villages) including Frigiliana, the National Park, the coast (beaches, aquapark, golf), Nerja, Málaga (Museum of Picasso, Gibralfaro Castle), Granada (the Alhambra), Sierra Nevada, Córdoba (Mezquíta), Marbella, Gibraltar/Morocco, Ronda, Sevilla.
A guest information folder and lots of (walking) maps are available in the villa. Our English speaking manager will be pleased to welcome you and show you around. She lives nearby and is available for questions and problems. She formerly had a restaurant, and if you order this she will love to make a paella or tapas for you, if you wish on your own terrace!
Per rental, there is a one-time charge for cleaning and beds made on arrival. This charge is 150 euros.
On your departure the villa should be in good, neat condition. Refundable damage deposit: 300 euros (larger groups 500 euros). The deposit will be paid on your bank account one week after departure, if no damage is found.
Included in the price: Bed linen, kitchen linen, towels (no beach towels), internet access and normal use of gas, water, electricity. Pool maintenance and gardening are also included in the price. The Andalucia region
Casa La Naranjera is located in the heart of Andalusia, east of Málaga near Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta in the province of Málaga (southern Spain).
It is a perfect place for walking, cycling and horse riding in the National Park, but also to discover the fascinating history of Andalusia with its beautiful cities and lovely white villages. The coast (Costa del Sol) also offers many possibilities to relax.
The climate is one of the best in Europe with over 320 sunny days a year.
Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta are part of the beautiful Axarquía region, a surprising and diverse area in the south. Characterized by its white villages, often of Arab origin, it contains squares with colorful flowers, beautiful plants and terraces.
The Moors named this area "Ash-sharquia" (land of the East) because of its location to the east of Málaga. They came from North Africa in 710, conquering almost the whole country within a period of four years. Then they withdrew quite quickly in the southern part of the peninsula. The Moors called it "Al Andalus". They occupied Al Andalus for more than seven centuries. They established villages, built castles, fortresses and mosques. Their minarets are still visible in some villages.
Canillas De Albaida
Canillas de Albaida is a 10 minutes walk. The village, with a population of approximately 700, is about 580 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara mountains. There are some little supermarkets and shops, a few bars and restaurants. Try the tapas from Gustavo (Plaza Mayor) or the fresh orange juice at the Cherry Bar (Cerezo).
Canillas de Albaida is 17 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast of the Costa del Sol (beach, aqua park, golf). There is a bus connection from Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta to the beach and Málaga several times a day.
Our holiday home is 2 kilometers from Cómpeta, a more touristic town with lots of shops, restaurants and bars.
Cómpeta is known as the pearl of the Axarquía. It is fascinating to explore with its labyrinth of narrow streets that date back to Moorish times and its spectacular views. The town is best known to many for its locally produced wine, available both dry and sweet.
Competa enjoys a variety of annual fiestas including the Noche del Vino (Night of the Wine), held each 15th August.
In fact, the nearby surroundings of Casa La Naranjera offer everything to meet the needs of nature and cultural lovers.
The National Park and the "pueblos blancos" (white villages) in the area such as Frigiliana are worth visiting. Nerja has special caves to explore. The coast offers numerous leisure facilities. Each day you can try another beach of the Costa del Sol. The golf enthusiast will find lots of beautiful golf courses. Velez-Málaga has an Aqua Park, with spectacular slides. Children will really love it.
The Andalusian cities of Granada, Córdoba, Ronda and Seville offer culture and history. The Moors developed one of the most sophisticated civilizations of the Middle Ages. Each of these Andalucian cities still holds spectacular remains of monuments such as the Alhambra Palace in Granada.
You may want to go abroad by visiting Gibraltar, or even cross over to Morocco.
In winter it is possible to ski in the Sierra Nevada.

-Mount Maroma (2.065 m)
-los pueblos blancos (white villages), including Frigiliana

"Excellent villa with superb view and close to Canillas and hiking trails"
A comfortable villa, with great terrace, garden and views. Including a pool but this is not available yet in this time of the year. Lots of lemon, orange and avocado trees. Especially in this time of the year lots of fruits and there for fresh juice in the morning! In the direct neighborhood lots of possibilities for hiking. Canillas de Albaida is close by, has a small super market, a restaurant and very friendly locals! The house has wifi, a well equipped kitchen and a fireplace in the living room, which we used several times because it cools down seriously in March. We had a great time. After several walks higher in the mountains La Naranjera is a good place to come home. lay back and to have a beer on the terrace!
