Casa Cumbre is only an hour's drive from Malaga airport and 25 minutes from the beaches at Torre del Mar and Caleta del Velez. The local village of Canillas de Aceituno is a 2km drive or 20 minute walk.
Casa Cumbre is a single storey villa, with high vaulted, beamed ceilings, wooden doors and window shutters. The villa is supplied with town water and electricity. Bottled gas is used for cooking and some heating. There are three air-conditioning units, one for the lounge and the other two in the bedrooms. All units cool, heat and dehumidify the rooms.
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, with plenty of mod cons including a gas cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and a washing machine. There is a main bathroom off the hallway, complete with full-size bath, separate shower, toilet and basin. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite with shower, toilet and basin. The second bedroom has a king-size bed and a 3' single bed
The lounge and dining area seat 4-6 people comfortably and has a wood-burning fireplace. There is a TV with built-in DVD player and a digital satellite receiver. We have a wide selection of family movies. There is also a selection of books, jigsaws and games for entertaining. Wi-fi access is available at an additional cost.
All bedrooms are well furnished with wardrobes and drawer units, each have their own heaters or fans for the summer if needed. There are also electric towel rail heaters in the en-suite and main bathroom. All bedlinen and towels are provided, including beach/swimming towels.
There is an outside covered terrace with sun awnings and blinds, plus an outside table with four chairs. Our secluded and private pool (6m x 4m) can be found down a few steps in the landscaped, mature gardens. The pool is maintained on a weekly basis by a local company. The pool area is walled and gated and there is also a covered pergola to provide some shade if needed, complete with table, chairs and sun-loungers. Part of the gardens are fenced and gated, including the driveway. There is ample parking available.
Changeover day is flexible.
For those of you that enjoy nature, photography, painting or writing, then this villa is ideal for you. If you just want to sit and relax, you can watch the local shepherds with their goats, wandering the mountainside, mules with their riders off to tend their vines and olives. Surrounding the villa, there are plenty of grapevines, almond, citrus, avocado and fig trees. The area is very lush and green.
The town is situated on the scenic Mudejar Route, at 645 metres altitude in the foothills of the Sierra Tejada mountain range, on the highest mountain in Axarquia, La Maroma which reaches 2,080 metres. Canillas is the ideal base for walking and exploring. The natural spring from the mountain attracts people from far away due to a belief that if the pure water is drunk, illness is prevented. The village has a population of 2,800.
There are many shops in the village, including three banks, post office, art gallery, various mini supermarkets, butcher, pharmacy and a DIY shop. For eating in the village, there are 4 restaurants; La Maroma Asador offers excellent service, good prices and large portions. The Bodega, with 2 huge pots outside, serves excellent food in the bar or the restaurant. The Sociedad and Bar Angel also serve full meals or tapas. There are various other bars for drinks, tapas or a simple meal.
Lake Vinuela is a short drive away, providing plenty of activities in and around the lake; sailing, walking and fishing (a licence is required). There is horse-riding not far from the lake, which provides lessons or rides out; to the Moorish Tower and through the mango and avocado plantations.
The nearest beach is a 25 minute drive away at Torre del Mar. The beach, known in general as Playa de Torre del Mar, runs along the entire length of the town and stretches almost 4 kilometres to the neighbouring resort of Caleta de Vélez. Running parallel to the beach is the splendid promenade (paseo marítimo) with a wide walking area, cycle lane, grassy areas, play areas for children and, of course, numerous chiringuitos and other watering holes.
Casa Cumbre is well placed as either a "get away from it all" holiday or a base to travel from. Previous customers have skied at Granada, bathed in the hot springs at Alhama, sightseeeing in Seville, visited the bullring in Mijas and driven to Gib for the day.
There are two golf courses within a 30 minute drive, accessible from the A-7/E15 motorway. Both are 18 holes and designed by the Spanish Ryder Cup player Jose Maria Canazares.
There is plenty of variety in activities and places to visit that are local to Casa Cumbre, if you can leave the stunning mountain views!

The Andalucia region
Until around a decade ago the Axarquía region of Andalucía was little known. Today, rural tourism comprises a large part of the local economy. However, the area is still breathtakingly beautiful and has not been spoilt by the interest and influx of foreigners. The main attractions are the area's dramatic hill and mountain scenery, its unspoilt, white washed villages and the strong sweet wine that is made from sun dried grapes. Because of the region's sub-tropical climate, this is also a region where some of the more tropical fruits, such as mango and kiwi are grown.
The Axarquía is excellent for hiking, walking and horse riding. The landscape is riven by deep valleys lined with terraces and irrigation channels that date back to Muslim times.
Nearly all the villages that dot the olive, almond and vine planted hillsides are of Muslim origin with narrow, windy streets.
Signposted routes with names like Ruta del Vino link groups of villages in one-day drives along the snaking mountain roads. The highest mountains in the area stretch east from the Boquete de Zafarraya. A scenic road winds west through the villages of Salares, Sedella and Canillas de Aceituna eventually linking up with the A 335 north of Velez Malaga which links up with the new highway to Malaga and beyond.
Canillas De Aceituno
Canillas de Aceituno in the northeast part of the La Axarquía region, 17 kilometres from Vélez Málaga and 51 from the provincial capital. The village sits at 650 metres above sea level. Its average rainfall is 670 litres per square metre and the annual average temperature is 17º C. This surprising and picturesque La Axarquía village stretches across one of the slopes of the looming Sierra de Tejeda range, while its municipal territory extends to the vicinity of the La Maroma peak (2,065 metres), considered the "Roof of Málaga".
Visitors arriving in this region will find themselves immersed in a landscape that is simply spectacular, both for the mountains themselves and for the panoramic views to be seen from every point. A pine forest, broken by rocky expanses on its upper levels, covers the northern part while in the south the landscape has more in common with the dominant terrain of La Axarquía, although it does not cease to be rugged. You will see hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, occasionally mixed with fruit and citrus orchards and market gardens.
