Home description

The apartment is an open plan 2 bedroom penthouse surrounded by a 7’ 6” wide veranda, giving spectacular views of the Atlantic East and West. The all round veranda means there is plenty room to walk round, sit & sunbath. The apartment is so close to the sea, it affords the luxury of being able to see & hear the water lap on the shore. You can sit and watch the sunrise or watch all types of boats, from fishing boats to pleasure boats or cruise liners sail or cruise past.
The apartment is within walking distance and easy access to some of the nicest lavada walks in Madeira and a short distance from two golf courses. It is an ideal location for those who want a resort holiday away from the busy city of Funchal. Surrounded by hotels with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and full leisure centres and next to the limpid waters of the Atlantic.

The Madeira region

Madeira, one of the most beautiful islands in Europe, is Portugal's "Jewel in the Atlantic". The landscape is spectacular. A green mantle of rich subtropical foliage covers the landscape. The flowers & plants bloom throughout the year, making the island like a permanent floating flower show. The bright orange beak-like, birds of paradise flowers, blossom in open fields.
The levadas, [walking paths] that skirt the edges of the mountain terraces, are lined with fragrant hydrangeas. The 1,300 miles of levadas crisscrossing the island are Madeira’s system of irrigation channels. They carry water down from the mountains on gentle gradients. They have level footpaths running along their entire length, providing a ready-made system of trails. They are a perfect path for walkers of all ages & abilities. Madeira is ideal for anyone who likes gentle walks or hard core hiking
Because of its sub-tropical climate, the island is often referred to as the "island of eternal spring". The temperature varies between 18C and 23C throughout the year.
The people are friendly, helpful and gracious, this is particularily noted by our guests as the get to know the people in the local restaurants, bars and shops.


Canico / Canico de Baixo area

Caniço de Baixo is a modern resort area with stylish villas, hotels & holiday homes. Becasue it is a costal tourist zone, it has an excellent selection of amenities including restaurants, bars, 2 mini-market, 4 car hire outlets, souvenir shop & tourist shop.
There are a number of sport and spa hotels in the resort, each makes outside visitors very welcome and the facilities can be used for a small fee. All the hotels also offer evening entertainment. Almost all of the local hotels offer indoor [heated in winter], & outdoor swimming pools. Most have a Jacuzzi, sauna, gymnasium, health & beauty centre, massages, beauty salon, spa treatments. All hotels offer a Happy hour 18.30 to 20.00 with nightly entertainment – outside guests are very welcome.
The limpid waters in Caniço de Baixo offer three excellent diving schools & perfect conditions to visit the fine ocean depths.
The town of Canico, with a shopping centre & supermarkets, is 2.5 kilometres away and Funchal is 10 Kilometers. Both can be reached using the excellent regular bus service which runs between Canico de Baixo and Funchal. The bus stop is 30m from the apartment.
Caniço de Baixo is a beautiful, quiet & peaceful coastal resort. It is an ideal location for those who want a resort holiday, but away from the busy city of Funchal.
The new dramatic Palheiro golf course with its stunning views is about 7 km away. Madeira’s oldest golf course, the PGA European Tour course -Santo da Serra golf course with its spectacular 27-holes is also within easy reach - 13 km away. More details on www.madeira-golf.com
Caniço de Baixo is a good location from where one can hike & walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500 kilometres, which meander round the mountains.
We recommend you use Turitrans which is located at the entrance to the apartment & highly recommended by our guests.
They only take a maximum of 8 on their walks and 15 on their tours. They use mini busses for all their excursions. Check it out on http://turitrans-infocentre.com email: madeira@turitrans-infocentre.com. One of the reasons we do not recommend car hire is because this company does such good trips and walks and many of our guests find this a more relaxing way of seeing the island.

You will need to arrange and book your own flights.
Charter Flights are available from Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter, Glasgow, Gatwick, Manchester, Luton, Newcastle and other regional airports.
Average Flight time 3 hrs 30 minutes. British Airways [www.ba.com] fly daily from Gatwick and the Portugeuse airline TAP [www.flytap.com] fly Thursdays and Sundays from Heathrow and daily from Gatwick. Easyjet now fly daily from Standsead and three times per week from Bristol
Flights on charter airlines can be booked via the web or any travel agency. For general charter flights we tend to use Airflights on the web. http://www.airflights.co.uk
Transfer to and from the airport is arranged by us. Once you have cleared customs & collected your luggage, you will be met by our taxi in the arrivals hall. Payment can be made direct to the driver. The charge is €25.00 each way.

The accommodation of 151.5 m 2 comprises a double bedroom with two large windows & a door opening onto the west facing veranda. So it has plenty of light and a beautiful view west to the sea
There is a very large bathroom.
A fully fitted kitchen, living / dining room with floor to ceiling picture window affords magnificent views of both the sea straight ahead and the mountains to the left. The kitchen is equipped with everything one should need.
Bedroom 2 is now used as a Lounge/TV room, and also has a single fold-up bed. It also has direct access onto the veranda.
The Apartment is serviced by two lifts.
There is a weekly maid service. Linen and towels are also provided, but beach towels should be taken for sunbathing.
The apartment is in a residential complex.


Further details outdoors:
The veranda is one of the main features of the apartment. Becasue it surrounds the apartment one can follow the sun thoughout the day. Alternatively some part of the veranda is also always in shade, thus sun lovers and shade lovers ar eboth accommodated.
There are sunloungers, table and chairs on the veranda and with its stunning views it is an ideal spot for a lazy day reading and sunbathing in total privacy.
Immediatioy outside the apratment block there are restaurants and bars and a small mini market. While there is plenty of entertainment and plenty places to eat, Canico de Baixo is also a quiet location without loud music and noise

Property rental per week 2-persons occupancy.
Occupancy all Season £330 per week for the apartment. An additional £30 per week is charged for a third person.
A deposit, payable to Kilrush Estates Ltd., for £100.00 per week booked, is required to confirm a booking. Any request to reserve the apartment must be followed by a deposit within 10 working days.
Normal Changeover day is Monday, but we can be flexible.


Conditions

We strongly recommend that you do not book car hire before leaving the UK, because if you need a car you may only do so for a few days rather than for the full week. Indeed upon arrival you may decide to use taxis or public transport. The local bus service is excellent, so much so that we always use the bus from Caniço de Baixo.
However, if you do decide to hire, there are four car hire companies in Caniço de Baixo just outside the apartment block. Their prices are competitive.
