The Mallorca/Majorca region
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic islands, the most popular and best known. It is often likened to a continent rather than simply as an island due to its variety in culture, history and natural landscapes, it isn't surprising that the sheer beauty of the island captivates everyone who visits. No other European island boasts a more contrasting terrain from the fertile plains of the centre to the almost Alpine peaks of the Tramuntana Mountains in the North/West and across to the gentle hills of the Levante on the East coast.
The islands 500 km of coastline offer a succession of lovely coves, beautiful sandy beaches and secluded bays, with some extraordinary caves to explore. Notably the 'Coves del Drac' which are the largest on the island. Discovered in 1896 by French geologists a 2 km tour of the caves will take you around a labyrinth of tunnels into huge chambers and spectacular formations. The highlight of the caves is the underground Lake Martel. The lake is 177m long and surrounded by illuminated stalagmites and stalactites.
At the eastern end of the wide bay of Alcúdia where the golden sand meets sand dunes you'll find the smaller resort of C'an Picafort. If it's your first visit to this resort then hop on the mini train and take a tour round. It will be bigger than you initially thought!
It has a lovely beach backed by a wide lovely promenade. It's perfect for daytime strolling or sitting at a cafe in the early evening watching your fellow holidaymakers strolling about trying to make that difficult decision of the night; where to eat!
At the end of the promenade you'll find the picturesque harbour which originally was the centre of this old fishing village before the influence of tourism. A good selection of boat trips depart from here giving you the chance to explore the coast and next door is a small marina full of pleasure craft.
Elsewhere the resort is filled with pedestrian streets lined with palm trees and packed with shops, bars and interesting eateries that beckon you in with their tempting menus.
Evenings tend to be a low-key affair centred around small bars some with live entertainment although if you fancy 'shaking your booty' into the wee hours there are a couple of nightclubs to choose from.Located in the Northwest of the island of Majorca, in the very centre of the Bay of Alcudia, the biggest bay of the Balearics, with 17 kilometres of beach. Preserved areas of woods extend towards the east, with only two small villages and hardly any tourist development. At this end of the bay is Cap Farrutx, one of the most beautiful areas of the island, with cliffs and pine groves of difficult access by car, but not by boat or hiking.
The distance to Palma is 54 km, half of which, approximately, is a motorway, crossing the whole island right through its middle.
You can arrive to Can Picafort by public transport from the bus+train station Plaza España. By bus (line 390) and by train (to Muro with conection to Can Picafort). Can Picafort is located right in the middle of the biggest bay in the Balearic Islands, between two natural parks and long white sand beaches which are ideal for hiking. Between the three residential areas there are more than 50 km of road suitable for road cycling and numerous routes for mountain biking. Our district provides the opportunity to practice all types of sports and offers a lot of municipal installations. Sporting events of note held in our area include the Karate, go-kart, tennis, football ( regional and international), championships, fishing (national and international) cross-country running, popular races, international half marathon, cycling and mountain bike races and national yoga meetings.
