Every day is a good day for viewing wildlife in New Hampshire. From the Connecticut Lakes in the far north to the seacoast in the south and everywhere in between, the landscape exhibits a diversity few other places can match. More than 450 species of fish, mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, as well as countless insects and marine animals are part of New Hampshire’s wildlife heritage. While the entire state offers wildlife viewing opportunities, the region of the state known as the Great North Woods exhibits an exceptionally large variety of wildlife.
To reach this area, travel north through New Hampshire on Route 16 to the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountain National Forest. This scenic byway offers dozens of opportunities to stop and take short walks—one of the best ways to experience and learn about wildlife. Keep an eye out for moose, especially in the vicinity of Oliverian Brook. In the late spring and early summer, you’ll find a wide array of neotropical migrant birds that nest in the forest. Continue north through Franconia Notch State Park and keep your eyes peeled for peregrine falcons. In late May and June, be sure to check out the slopes of Cannon Mountain Ski Area to see if you can spot black bear. Grab your hiking boots and explore the Presidential Range, offering a variety of AMC programs and great rock climbing off Cathedral Ledge.
The Campton area
Close your eyes and envision a relaxing place where there is blue sky and waterfalls, vast mountain views and a pinch of excitement. Perhaps some kids giggling or laughing out loud, a comfortable bed at the end of the day or a pleasant place to throw your sleeping bag under the stars, and plenty of different things to do.
You're thinking about New Hampshire's White Mountains where scenic beauty, relaxation and pure family fun are around every corner.
Are you ready for the fun? Then visit the White Mountains and its 16 terrific family attractions. Spend the entire day at one, visit several in a day or plan your vacation to include all of them. The distances between the White Mountains Attractions are short, and the roads are scenic.
While here, try some other White Mountains activities. Take a hike, swim, have a picnic, bike, golf, visit a historic site or enjoy tax-free shopping.

It was way more than we imagined. Beautiful house in the woods w/an awesome rec center ! The kitchen lacked a little in cooking utensils, but overall this was a really nice place. There were only 2... more |

The location of the house in the White Mountain is excellent for nearly any activity you want to (you can hike in the area close to you; go by kayak on the Pemi river; most scenic drives are nearby; swimming in the river; etc.). The Recreation centre is nearby (10 minutes walk) and has good and clean pools and other facilities. The house itself was large enough, was equiped well and very clean. We loved the added facility of Wifi. The trees are very close to the house and that makes the house pretty dark (even in summer at noon) and this enclosure also makes natural ventilation of the house somewhat difficult (high humidity as well). The balance was surely positive. |

If you want to stay in the White Mountains at a good location for a sensible price this is the place. You can drive up Mt Washington, visit the outlets at North Conway, Squam Lake (Recommended) or just meander around the local area and examine the covered bridges. Typical for this type of home in the area there are lots or trees, which does reduce the amount of sun you can expect, even on a cloudless day. The backup at the rental office was superb when we managed to lose our house key. Enjoy the log fire, you can just walk a few yards and collect enough wood to keep you more than warm any night. |
