The Murcia region
Casa Puesta del Sol is situated on the Costa Calida - the Warm Coast, Murcia. Its is located within a short distance to the seaside town of the Puerto de Mazarron and benefits from over 300 days of sunshine and warm weather per year. This particular area is loved for the unspoilt beaches, rocky coves and coastlines, lively towns and cities during summer months.
Just a short drive from the villa and you find yourself in the mountains and National Park of Sierra Espuña, ideal for hikers and nature lovers alike.
Slightly further afield are the historic and bustling cities of Cartagena and Murcia where you can combine centuries of history with fantastic shops, boutiques and food. To add there are many tapas bars and restaurants serving local, fresh produce, especially fish and seafood. Along the coastline you will find remains of old castles, forts and watch towers, including the Guns at Cabo Tinoso.
For the sports lovers, the Murcia Region has many 18 hole golf courses including La Manga Club near Cartagena and the Jack Nichlaus designed La Torre Golf Resort, Roldan. Closer to home Casa Puesta del Sol is located minutes from the Camposol Club de Golf, Golf Resort.
In the summer months, the port comes alive at night time, with many people and out and about enjoying the many restaurants and bars that stay open into the early hours of the morning.
The town of Mazarrón lies 3 kilometres inland. There has recently been some archaeological discoveries made and these are in the process of excavation. The ruins of the Vélez castle can been seen from the town centre. There are weekly outdoor markets, full of local produce, fruit and vegetables along with many leather items.
The Puerto de Mazarrón is still a very traditional seaside / fishing town. There are over 30 beaches along the coastline, with something for everyone. The main beaches are found the within the Port. These are all blue flag beaches, have lifeguards and toilet facilities, small beach side bars and other activities such as waterskiing and giant water inflatables for children play on. The Puerto has many small boutiques and shops, as well as a palm lined paseo (promenade) with more shops, bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours all overlooking the stunning Playa de Puerto de Mazarrón and the Mediterranean Sea
There are many local fiestas, which are a worth seeing and being a part of. The main ones include; The Fiesta del Milagro (The Fiesta of the Miracle), which is celebrated on the 17th of November and runs through until the 18th of December. It is where the locals carry the Virgen de la Purísima from Mazarrón Town to Bolnuevo and celebrates when the Virgen appeared warning of the invading Berber pirates and saved the town of Mazarrón and its inhabitants.
Others included the coming of the Tres Reyes Magos (The Three Wise Men / Kings), where the kings arrive on boats in the Puerto de
Mazarron and then are paraded through the streets offering sweets and presents to the children, normally on the evening of the 5th of January, the eve of the Epiphany
A summer fiesta well worth viewing is the fiesta of the Virgen del Carmen, who is the patron saint of Fishermen and is celebrated on the afternoon of the 16th of July. The local fishermen, along with their boats set out from the harbour and parade the Virgen from the port to Bolnuevo.
Some more fiestas not to be missed are the carnivals in Mazarron Town, usually in February and in the Port, usually in July. The costumes, music and atmosphere rival those in Rio and not to be missed. With every fiesta, there is plenty of music, food, drink and a true way to really appreciate local life in Spain.
Camposol is a small urbanisation that has grown and development over the last several years. It has plenty to offer to visitors including its own Medical Centre, Pharmacy, several banks, a large supermarket with several smaller shops. Plenty of bars and restaurants, with weekly entertainment available As well as the golf course, there is a small bowling alley with snooker / pool tables, a weekly outdoor market as well as 2 smaller indoor ones.
Horse riding, water parks, zoos, quad biking, artisan and weekly markets, sightseeing, fiestas and much, much more.....
