MARINA COLONNA ,COUNTRY ESTATE
Apartment | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Amid the gently rolling hills of San Martino in Pensilis in the Molise region of Southern Italy, Marina Colonna's country house can be found nestling in a patchwork tapestry of sunflower, wheat and tomato fields, surrounded by the ancient olive groves that have been producing high quality, estate-bottled extra virgin olive oil for several decades.
The newly renovated ground floor guest flat is located on the south wing of the house, with the bedroom and living room opening straight onto the patio and gardens. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and a bathroom created out of local stone. The living room is large and contains unique art and furnishings from Marina's private collection; the original fireplace has been restored together with the vaulted brick ceiling. A wide arch divides the lounge from a generous, modern kitchen and dining area, which are brightly lit by a skylight.

The Puglia/Molise region
Molise is a small and picturesque region of southern Italy.
Mountainous and hilly, it extends over a surface area of 4,438 square kilometres with a 35-kilometre coastline along the Adriatic Sea. Its two provinces, Campobasso and Isernia, are divided into 136 municipalities with a total population of approximately 320,000 inhabitants. Molise offers its visitors opportunities for unique vacations in pristine environments, away from typical tourist spots, where one can observe and experience nature first-hand. In addition to its lovely scenery, Molise is a wealth of architectural and archaeological marvels and its local handicrafts, gastronomy, wines and popular traditions are the very soul of this simple and fascinating land. Nature is Molise's greatest attraction, its clear sea water is a pleasant diversion in the summer while the gently rolling landscape inland conceals ancient villages and agriturismi (farm homes with tourist accommodation) in which genuine, traditional fare is sure to please the palate.
Endorsed by increased advertisement campaigns, Molise offers mountain-lovers the opportunity to practice winter sports in beautiful and unblemished surroundings. Historic, archaeological and artistic attractions provide cultural experiences in striking settings: the splendid Saepinum, the remains of the Sanctuary of Sanniti Pentri in Pietrabbondante, the Romanesque churches of Santa Maria della Strada and Santa Maria di Canneto, medieval fortresses and castles scattered throughout the region, traces of transhumance trails and many other wonders that attest to this land's extraordinary past. It is easy to become enchanted by nature when visit- ing the area's most important nature reserves, such as the WWF Oasis in Guardiaregia, the Lipu Oasis in Casacalenda and many other similar areas of uncontaminated beauty. Molise's range of tourist offerings stands its ground in an increasingly competitive and diversified market.
Molise is bordered by Abruzzo to the north, Apulia to the east, Lazio to the west and Campania to the south. It has a short coastline to the northeast, lying on the Adriatic Sea.
Agriculture, involving small and micro holdings, is currently offering high-quality products. The agricultural holdings produce wine, cereals, olive oil, vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Traditional products are Grass Pea (cicerchia) and Farro. Molise's autochthonous grape is Tintilia which has been rediscovered during the last ten years.
