A 17th century mansion restored in 2012 with modern commodities. Located in Castelmauro, a small village within a natural reserve, it's the perfect place for a hiking holiday or to get out of the turbulent city. With the Mediterranean Sea at 40 km only, you can always choose between the scenic forest hills around the village and a sunbath on the relaxing beaches of Termoli. Compared to other regions of Italy, the province of Campobasso is little known by tourists, and it's mostly Italians who come to enjoy its clean waters.

The area offers many unknown treasures beside the seashore, but its most valuable is simply its lifestyle. Preserved by miracle from modern-day speed and rumor, the villagers have kept their old ways not to please the tourist like it's often the case, but for the sake of their folklore and memory. This not only means that traditional celebrations are numerous and colorful, but also that fresh, off the farm products are readily available on the market and in the restaurants for very good price. Wine, olive oil, cheese, vegetables and sausages on their own are worth the trip… And in Autumn, you need to try the rare truffles and other fine mushrooms.

In the vicinity of Castelmauro, you will find many interesting sites giving the opportunity for a day-trip. About 20 km to the East by an easy road is the Parco del Gargano, one of the few efficiently protected reserve in Italy. Since 2007 many schools have implemented eco-tourism projects from mount Gargano to the Tremiti islands, contributing to the "un Bosco per Kyoto" enterprise. The Gargano Park is remarkable by the diversity of its habitats, with rocky coasts at the end of southern valleys rich in rare flowers and wildlife. It's the richest location in orchids in Europe, with 56 species, and you might spot the autochthonous roe deer.

The Vasto Museum is built above an archaeological site dating from Roman and Etruscan times, while the Trivento's cathedral hides an ancient pagan crypt which was converted into a church by the first Christians.

The region is filled with charming villages keeping their beauty and ancient marvels, and for those who don't see their vacation complete without a day catching the fish, the Lago di Gardialfiera is famous for his carp.
