The Umbria region

Umbria is the green heart of Italy because of it's fertile fields and evergreen hills. The lower hills host silvery olive groves with gentile hiking paths and meadows of wild flowers while the mountains surrounding the Spoleto valley are clad with evergreen oaks and pine forests. The valley of the Nera river has river rafting and isolated mountain villages to explore, as well as the world famous towns of Norcia, known for pork and boar products and Cascia the home of Santa Rita. The nearby hilltowns of Trevi, Todi, Montefalco, Spoleto, Assisi, Orvieto and Perugia are all home to great cultural events, concerts, popular festivals, local food specialties, great restaurants and fascinating museums and historical sites.

Campello sul Clitunno

Campello is a Unesco World Heritage site hosting the Tempietto sul Clitunno, a fascinating relic of the Longobard reign in the 6th and 7th centuries. It was rediscovered in the Renaissance whose architects left many drawings of its romantic and evocative site on the banks of the river. The Fonti sul Clitunno are just a few steps away and are a peaceful water park with weeping willows, fish and water birds whose beauties have been recorded by poets from Plinio to Lord Byron to contemporary writers. The hills surrounding the castle are cultivated in tiers of stone walled olive groves and the oil produced in the many local oil mills. Nearby are scores of vineyards with excellent vintages to discover.
