BookThe West Country / Cornwall region
In the legendary land of King Arthur the barn is sited about 6 miles from Tintagel Castle and about two miles from King Arthurs reported last battlefield at Slaughterbridge. Tintagel Castle is an interesting place to visit - the walk there is mainly downhill and there's a landrover trip available for those that cannot face the climb back up to the village!
The two highest peaks in Cornwall, Roughtor and Brown Willy, are a short drive away and are well worth the climb to experience the breathtaking views they offer over the surrounding countryside with Crowdy reservoir at their foot. On a clear day Dartmoor can be seen in the distance.
The Camelford / Trewassa, Davidstow area
Many beaches within a short drive to suit all tastes. Trebarwith Strand is the nearest and is a small cove with a sandy beach at low tide; Widemouth Bay, just south of Bude has miles of flat sandy beach (see the photos) and is ideal for younger children to paddle in the streams that cross the sand to the sea.
Padstow - old harbour town that celebrates May day with the Obby Oss competition of the red and blue Osses and on Boxing Day remembers the ports history with Darkie Day and stories from the slave traders that used to land in the harbour.
The Eden project, the gardens of Lanhydrock House and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are all within reasonable driving distance.

My husband and I first stayed at Skiber Spar for a week in Easter 2011 and have been back since then for a few long weekends off season in the winter. Jean and David are excellent hosts and the welcome pack is definitely very welcome after a long drive across country! The location is very convenient for Camelford, Wadebridge, Port Isaac, Padstow, Bude and Tintagel and it is a pleasure coming back at the end of the day to Skiber Spar to the peace and quiet. The facilities are top notch and a real home from home. We made full use of the self-catering facilities and even hosted a casual dinner party for four of our relatives who live nearby. If you are thinking of an off season weekend break then Skiber Spar actually works out better value for money than staying at a local B&B or hotel like the Travelodge in Wadebridge or the Premier Inn in Bodmin. The weekly rates are good value for money too. We will be back to stay again in the not too distant future. |

Jean welcomed us with a kitchen stocked with bread, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits-which was great after our long journey. Skiber spar was a good base for visiting the local beach and on rainy day other attractions as it was just off the main camelford to launceston road. Don't be put off by the factory that hones into view as you approach the farm, it's davidstow creamery. The only down side was the en suite bathroom was damp, I expect due to the amount of rain we've had this summer! |
