Camelford area
Tintagel is world famous for its numerous connections with the Arthurian legends. King Arthur was said to be born on Tintagel Island. Tintagel Castle was recently voted one of the most romantic places in the whole Country. In Tintagel you can leisurely browse the local shops, enjoy a cream tea or homemade pasty. Take a walk over to the remains of the 13th Century Castle perched high above the Atlantic waves. A "must visit" whilst in North Cornwall. Soak up the unique atmosphere generated by the magnificent views and world famous legends. Tintagel has much to offer visitors including visitor centres, beautiful walks, good shops and many local pubs & inns.
Boscastle is a picturesque Cornish seaside village hidden in a steep sided valley where two rivers meet and enter the pretty medieval harbour. From the harbour you can start exploring the outstandingly beautiful surrounding area. Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic coastal views. From the harbour a picturesque valley heads inland, d iscover ancient woods, Boscastle old village with traditional Cornish cottages dating back to the 15th Century and the site of the Norman Castle and the medieval strip farming system which is still in operation on the cliff top. Boscastle harbour is small and gives shelter to a number of little Cornish fishing boats. In times gone by it was a busy harbour with numerous trade taking place throughout the South of England.
Port Isaac is a picturesque old-world fishing village on the north coast of Cornwall. It's name is derived from the old Cornish 'Porth Issec' meaning Corn Bay. It nestles in a valley between steep hills. Even today Port Isaac is relatively unspoilt and has been little affected by change during it's six hundred years of history. Narrow alleys and streets give Port Isaac an air of enchantment, so different from anything you may find elsewhere. At Port Isaac Harbour - known as the Platt - local fishermen land their catch as they have done down the centuries. You can (if you wish) meet the boats as they come in from the sea and buy fresh crab, lobster and mackerel, depending on what the catch has been. Sea fishing is available from the rocks or from boats which may be hired locally. Fishing trips may also be arranged with the local boatmen. Fresh water fishing can be obtained from the moorland streams a few miles inland, you can check on fishing licences and permits at the local post office. With miles of delightful cliff walks and country lanes full of wild flowers it is the perfect setting for your Cornish holiday.
Port Isaac and neighbouring Port Gaverne are both popular beaches with swimmers. For surfing, nearby Polzeath offers a magnificent stretch of golden sands, with Daymer Bay (a very sheltered spot with calm water) just a little further along. Here children are delighted when low water uncovers numerous rock pools alive with tiny fish. Golf at nearby St.Enodoc. Water-skiing at nearby Rock. Tennis, bowls etc... at the market town of Wadebridge, which is ten miles away. The Eden Project is only 45 minutes drive from Port Isaac and last year and attracted approximately 2 million visitors from the UK and overseas.
