Home description

The King Arthur Apartment is a magnificent duplex situated within Greylake House, a former Georgian gentleman farmer's residence. It is located in Greylake Barton, a beautiful hamlet situated near to the sleepy Cornish town of Camelford which is owned by just two families in its entirety. Located between the Atlantic Coast and Bodmin Moor, it is just 4 miles from the beach and a mile from Camelford and is a perfect base for holidaying in North Cornwall.

The property has been renovated to the highest standards and is surrounded by 20 acres of pasture land. A luxury retreat with spectacular views, you can stay within the grounds, wander down to the babbling stream and watch it tumble over the natural granite rocks, sit under the trees and relinquish the rest of the world...

...or, you can touch base then head off to visit one of the many different sights, attractions and beaches nearby.
Camelford (formerly 'Cam Pol' which is Cornish for “curved river”) sits astride the river Camel and at over 700ft above sea level it is one of the highest towns in England. Some believe that King Arthur himself was slain in nearby Slaughterbridge, and that Camelford is in fact the Camelot of legend. You can visit the site of Arthur's acclaimed demise which is marked by a carved stone, research the stories in The Arthurian Centre and decide for yourself...

Whatever type of holiday you are looking for, Greylake Barton is a magical and spritual place where children (and adults) can roam free, climb the trees and play on their swings, admire the lichen and breathe the very cleanest of air...

The West Country / Cornwall region

The face of Cornwall's vibrant image has evolved from a rich history and culture that still lives and breathes throught the sights and scenery scattered throughout the county. And with over 50 miles of heritage coastline, stone circles, castles and a rich maritime heritage, it's a history worth of discovery and celebration.

The nearby Eden Project was conceived by Tim Smit to construct and maintain a large-scale environmental complex on a property located about 8km from St Austell, Cornwall. Although relatively new, the project has quickly becomeone of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK. The complex includes two giant, transparent domes, each emulating a natural biome, that house plant species from around the world.

Weather-wise, the westernmost tip of mainland Britain benefits from the effects of the Gulfstream and Cornwall's climate is much milder than the rest of the country.

Camelford / Advent area

The historic town of Camelford has a full range of facilities including excellent pubs and restaurants and a variety of shops. It is a good walking centre, just south of the town is a footpath leading on to Bodmin Moor. The ancient Slaughter Bridge is the legendary site of King Arthur's last battle.

The town is home to the North Cornwall Museum and Gallery located in the same building as the Tourist Information Centre. The Museum has a fine collection of artefacts which give a great insight into the many aspects of life in North Cornwall during the last 100 years. These include an amazing array of tools associated with traditional industries. The Gallery has regular exhibitions of paintings, pottery and textiles.

Rough Tor, in the care of the National Trust - Over 100 Bronze Age round houses, numerous burial cairns, early enclosure linking Rough Tor to Little Rough Tor, the remains of the medieval chapel of St. Michael (AD1371) at the summit.

Nearby Crowdy Reservoir offers trout fishing; and at Davidstow is the Moorland Flying Club.
