Central London/Zone 2 / Primrose Hill area

Primrose Hill is an elegant enclave nestled between Regents Park and Camden town - it is a spacious quiet residential area very close to central London. It is a short walk alongside the canal to the famous Camden Lock Market. Besides its many pubs, Camden is now host to famous jazz and rock venues - a short walk away. In the other direction are the elegant shops and restaurants of Regents Park Road. Hampstead is just ten minutes to the North. Regents Park and Zoo are five minutes walk away.
Regents Park Road has many restaurants including an excellent fish restaurant which owns its own fishmongers and therefore is able to provide very fresh fish daily. There is also one of the best vegetarian restaurants in London, a smart French restaurant, Greek, Polish, Russian and other ecclectic restaurants in the street as well as a well stocked health food store selling take-away food. The Lansdown pub is just a few doors down and serves excellent quality food made with fresh produce.
One of London's canals is a few minutes walk down the road and it is possible to take a sightseeing barge trip from Camden Lock along the canal. You can also walk to little Venice along the canal path, by turning right at the bottom of the stairs and continuing to walk past the zoo.

Oxford Street and Regent street are separated from Primrose Hill by Regents Park, which makes it very close to the west end and a very pleasant quiet respite from the business of central London. There is a bus five minutes walk away that takes you to the West End. In the opposite direction is Chalk Farm tube, which is on the Northern Line.

Primrose Hill has a number of previous residents who are famous e.g. in Fitzroy road, very close to our flat, there is a plaque commemorating the residency of Sylvia Plath. W B Yeats also lived in the same street.

There are a number of exclusive shops as well as a few more practical ones in Regents park road (5minutes walk from the property). There are interior designers, shoe shops, a florist, clothes, a fishmonger, a health food shop, a grocery shop,an excellent one selling all household stores, an Italian delicatessen, a chemist, a wine shop etc. Up Gloucester ave, right over the bridge and right down the main road for 5 minutes, then right up a small hill (10 minutes walk altogether) is also a large supermarket.
BUSES
On the other side of Chalk Farm tube station is a bus stop for a 168 which can take you to the British Museum and near Covent Garden and Waterloo Bridge.
Down Chalk Farm Road is a 27 bus which can take you to Paddington Station.
Down ChalkFarm Road there is also a 24 bus which will take you to the Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street, not far from the British museum and Covent Garden.
Bus 31 opposite Chalk Farm tube can take you close to Portobello Market - about half and hour journey
Hampstead Heath is two stops away on the northern line from Chalk Farm.
There is a little independent cinema one stop away in Belsize Park. (Called Screen on the Green, in Time Out)

Nearest tube is Chalk Farm on Northern line, one stop north of Camden Town and Two stops south of Hampstead.
Tube station is five minutes walk from flat
Buses 168 from Euston - good bus to go to British Museum Covent Garden - ask bus driver to tell you where to get off. . It leaves behind Chalk Farm tube
27 from Paddington to Chalk Farm road - left out of Paddington

This bus also takes you through Oxford Street, so you can take it in the other direction if you want to go shopping.
There is a pocket size A-Z which is a map of London for guests to use in the flat - you will need to borrow it to find your way around.

Cheapest tickets - ask at the tube station for tubes and buses. There may be a family rail card - pricing changes all the time. Children under 16 go free on buses.
Oyster cards which can be topped up are generally the cheapest way to travel on buses and tubes.
They are also the most convenient as you are not always allowed on buses if you haven't already bought a ticket.

CAMDEN market is about 7 minutes walk away . It is busiest with the largest number of selling stalls on Saturday and Sundays from about 10.30.
