The Old Chapel
About the home
The Old Chapel is a cosy 2 bedroom cottage converted from an 1855 Baptist Chapel. It sits well back from the quiet road in a large garden shared with the owners who live next door. The original front door opens onto a sitting room with a sofa and double sofa-bed, TV and DVD, internet, iPod dock and radio. Off the sitting room is the dining area which seats 4 and a well stocked kitchen with hob/oven, fridge/freezer,washer drier, microwave, kettle, toaster, etc. Upstairs there are the double and single bedrooms, with feather duvets and family bathroom with bath. Travel cot available plus high chair.
The village of Fulbourn has several shops and pub/restaurants. It is within easy reach of the university town of Cambridge. Buses leave from outside the Old Chapel every 20 minutes taking you to the railway station, city center and Addenbrooke's hospital.
The land for the chapel was originally purchased for 10 shillings in July 1855 on behalf of “a society of Protestant Dissenters of Denomination of Particular Calvinist Baptists”. Though it hasn't been active as a place of worship for more than 40 years, there is still a handfull of gravestones from the 1860s in the wood behind the chapel. These add to the charm of the place and don't in any way detract from the welcoming feeling you get when you step inside. There is a large garden with orchard to enjoy relaxing outside. Barbecue and picnic essentials available for your use plus bikes for two adults and one teenager.

What a beautiful property. We absolutely loved every minute of our stay - Denis and Ruth have got it off to a fine art. Charming furniture and quality towels and bed linens made for a very comfortable stay. We used The Old Chapel as base for my daughter's 18th birthday - perfectly located for Cambridge city centre, (the bus service is most efficient and cost-effective and literally, on the doorstep) and with the joy of being in a village location with all the local amenities you could possibly need. We availed ourselves of most of the local shops/hostelries as per our hosts' guide and were not disappointed. At the time of our stay there was no washing machine, but I believe one is being installed shortly, and the two tall men in our party struggled with the lack of a shower, (there is a huge bath with shower taps) but apart from these two minor niggles, it was faultless. Actually would I recommend this to a friend - not likely... they'll probably bag the weeks that I want next time ! |

Great little cottage on the outskirts of Cambridge. We only required one night stay (for a friend's wedding in the city) and were very pleased that the owners of this cottage were able to accomodate us. The property is very well furnished and would be a lovely place to stay for a longer period. There is no 'off road' parking, but parking on the street outside the gate was easy. The property was fantastic value at a similar rate to a family hotel room, but with so much more space makes it perfect for people with a young family. |

The cottage was every bit as delightful as its pictures. It was well equipped and comfortable and felt very secluded surrounded by a beautiful garden without a house in sight. |
