Beechwood House is a magnificent period home dating back to the late eighteen hundreds providing a wonderful example of spacious Victorian grandeur. Peacefully situated on the fringe of the picturesque village of Fulbourn, it is conveniently located just five miles from the historic City of Cambridge and less than an hour from the heart of London.
The property has recently undergone a substantial facelift, and whilst retaining many of its original features it has been carefully and tastefully extended, creating a traditional atmosphere blended with the comfort of modern day living.
The bright and airy interior opens out into the most beautifully established and traditional English garden which backs onto open countryside, providing an oasis of unrushed tranquillity and seclusion.
Accommodation details: The walled driveway provides ample parking for several cars and has a covered arched shelter for bicycles. The main entrance to Beechwood House opens into a reception hall with guest cloakroom, which runs through the centre of the property. To the left of the reception hall is a large modern kitchen with a central granite-top work island along with all required accessories, plus a pantry and utility room.
Leading on from the open plan kitchen is a large combined living and dining room with flagstone floor (under-floor heating) and large glazed front which opens out into the garden and provides a wonderfully bright and airy aspect.
To the side of the dining room is an additional reception room with a high glazed ceiling, which also leads out into the garden and has a second cloakroom with shower/wet-room.
The westerly side of the entrance hall opens into the very large sitting room which has an open fire and half-moon bay window looking out over the garden. There is also a small conservatory and the main room has midway dividing doors should a more cosy atmosphere be sought.
On the first floor there are five bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional shower room. Four of the bedrooms have double beds and one has twin singles, comfortably sleeping 10 people in total.
Outside: Set in over an acre of established grounds and beautiful garden, including a small pond, the south facing rear of Beechwood House has been designed to maximise the stunning views across lush lawns and colourful borders. Opening out on to a spacious terrace with barbecue and seating area, al fresco dining is an absolute delight at certain times of the year.
For the more energetic guests, there is a trampoline and badminton net in and around the garden, a croquet set and four bicycles at guests' disposal. Along the Easterly border of the garden is the 'pool house' with the private heated indoor swimming pool. The swimming pool is 8m x4m in dimension and the depth is 1m at the shallow end and 2m at the deep end with integral roman steps and is heated all year round.
Our standard cleaning service is full preparation for your arrival and a change of bed linen and light clean weekly thereafter. We are happy to arrange a more frequent service if required as follows: • Extra cleaning at £15 per hour • Change of all bed linen & towels at £15 per room

“Beechwood House is even better than it looks on line”
We booked Beechwood House and one of the studios for a celebration of a family birthday. James was there to welcome us personally when we arrived. First impressions were excellent including champagne on ice, chocolates, lots of fresh fruit and flowers. The house is beautiful inside, big rooms downstairs looking out onto the huge, unoverlooked garden which stretches to open countryside beyond. Upstairs bedrooms are lovely. They vary in size and are ideal for a family gathering. We all enjoyed the lovely swimming pool. Furnishings and facilities are all of a very high standard. We found everything we needed in the kitchen to cook elaborate celebration meals. I made use of one of the bikes provided to look around the village of Fulbourn and we also walked to the recreation ground (5 minutes), the shops (10 minutes) and the pretty church of St. Vigor with a carpet of cowslips in the churchyard. With Park and Ride into Cambridge just two and a half miles away it was easy to load the party onto the bus for a visit. Everyone in our group agreed we couldn't have chosen anywhere better for an occasion such as this.
Response: It was a pleasure meeting you all and I'm so pleased you found Beechwood House so ideal for your family birthday celebration. James

“A warm and welcoming home from home, with a heated swimming pool.!”
Snowy January did not seem the best time to arrange a family get-togther, but the minute we met James at Beechwood House, the warmth of his welcome dispelled any worries. We were twelve adults and one toddler, the house charmed us all. The log fire in the lounge, the really warm indoor swimming pool, togther with the spacious bedrooms, and many bathrooms all ideal for a long weekend 'catch up' Nothing was too much trouble for James, and the added bonus of the close-by White Hart for Sunday lunch made the whole weekend a great success. The family are talking about a visit to Beechwood in October, as we have several birthdays this month, I personally can't wait!
Response: It was a pleasure meeting you all and I'm so pleased you had such an enjoyable and memorable stay at Beechwood House. I look forward to seeing you again next year! James
We had a great time at Beechwood House and made many happy memories there. I can honestly say that it was the highlight of the year for us. My wife has lived away from family for a long time which has always been a hard thing for her. Unknown to her, her family and I planned a surprise weekend for her and extended family at Beechwood House. Her family flew in from overseas with great anticipation for the surprise and looking forward to spending time together relaxing and enjoying the pool. The surprise went extremely well and we all enjoyed a very lovely weekend together in this beautiful house. We enjoyed preparing and eating meals together in the spacious dining room and spent a lot of time in the heated pool, which felt great considering it was a very cold weekend. The rooms were all very comfortable for us, with more than enough space for all of us in the house. Mr. Main was very nice and happy to help if needed. We as a family made very happy memories in Beechwood House.
Response: I'm so pleased Beechwood House helped provide so many happy memories for your family reunion. James

“Outstanding quality of finish, perfect for entertaining, larger than expected & brilliant pool.”
We received the warmest of welcomes when we arrived. The house is perfect for large groups of friends wishing to celebrate a special occasion. It was finished to a very high standard with every facility you could wish for. Great kitchen for dinner parties, fast internet, good local pub, perfect warm indoor pool, what more could you want. Huge garden with Trampoline & small pond (Not suitable for unsupervised children). Very comfy bed. Tesco 5 min down the road and park & ride (Newmarket Road) into Camb town - 5 min past that. Cant wait to go back next year.
Response: I'm so pleased you all had such a good time and that you enjoyed your stay at Beechwood House so much. You're most welcome back at any time. James

“ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC HOUSE! OUR SECOND VISIT THIS YEAR!!!”
This was my second visit this year. A group of 12 because we rented the house and one of the FANTASTICALLY newly refubished self contained barn conversions...... Really super!!
Our group ranged from age from 11 to 55.......So a really broad group of family and friends that have know each there for years.
All really enjoyed the house and having plenty of space....................... and the pool.......what a bonus............... toasty warm in November! Really fabulous space, kitchen super and views over the substantial garden.
Log fires in the evenings, food, drink and laughter!
We are now planning a regular annual visit.
Thank you James for such a fantastic stay at a top notch location and property.
Response: It was an absolute pleasure to see you again and I'm delighted that you have already booked again. It's been nice getting to know you. James
I rented Beechwood House for a long weekend so that as a family we were close to Cambridge for my sons wedding. The house was a real home-from-home where we could all relax and get ready for the big-day. There were 10 of us altogether including a young baby and all of our requirements were met.
The swimming pool was an added bonus and was always lovely and warm and very clean. My three year old granddaughter really enjoyed the garden space with lots of room to run around and explore.
All in all we were very comfortable and look forward to another occasion when we can visit Beechwood House again.
Response: I'm delighted that both the wedding and your stay at Beechwood House were such a success and it would be lovely to see you back again in the future. James

“Beautiful house”
Beechwood House is utterly lovely! Fantastically well equipped house with tasteful top of the range stuff and wonderfully comfortable. I went with 8 other friends and there was heaps of space for us to not feel crowded. The pool was luxuriously warm, the kitchen a delight. A short drive from Cambridge. I would highly recommend staying here.
Response: I'm delighted you all had such an enjoyable long weekend together. James

“Beautiful house & garden - wish we had one like it!”
We went there (siblings, partners, parents, young children & dogs) for a surprise 75th for my Mum. The house had instant wow factor with a lovely social kitchen & dinner, where we spent most of the first night, eating & drinking. The next day we played loads in the garden with the dogs & the kids, popped into Cambridge & then back home to the pool with the kids & then off to The White Hart for dinner & then chilled out in the big lounge that evening with more drink, a perfect day. Day 2 was more playing in the beautiful big garden, more pool action & chilling in the perfectly equipped house. Totally recommend for a get together of any ages...
Response: It was really nice to see you all having so much fun during such a special family celebration. James

“What a stunning, well presented home”
A number of my friends and I booked Beechwood house as a weekend getaway for a 30th birthday. James the owner was in contact with me throughout the booking process. He was on hand to answer all our questions and was incredibly accommodating (fitting in an extra guest for us).
Beechwood House has a real homely feel which is lovely. We were blessed with beautiful weather the weekend we stayed and enjoyed use of the pool and trampoline throughout the weekend. The home was spotlessly clean and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. There was even a bottle of bubbly waiting for us upon our arrival.
Its within 15 minutes of Cambridge city centre but far enough away that you can enjoy all the peace and quiet of the countryside. The ohotos do not do the garden justice, its twice the size and twice as beautiful.
I will definitely be going back and I know a few of my friends will too.
Response: I'm so pleased you all had such a wonderful time at Beechwood House and you would all be most welcome for a return visit. James
We booked Beechwood House as a weekend venue for our extended family of 9, including grandparents and small (3 and 6 years old) children, and all had a glorious time. The pool - warm and clean - was a big hit with the children, and, thankfully, the good weather allowed us to enjoy the lovely garden - very definitiely part of Beechwood's appeal. We thought the common areas - kitchen, dining area and sitting rooms were really well sized, and we appreciated the many bathrooms dotted around the house. If we had one small criticism, it is that we found the beds a little soft, and in some cases, a little creaky, but that certainly did not spoil our enjoyment of the House. James, the owner, did all that he could to make himself available should we need anything, and was very efficient during the booking proceess. We were grateful, too, for the generous arrival treats that he left for us. We look forward to returning to Beechwood soon!
Response: I'm delighted you all enjoyed your stay at Beechwood House and it would be a pleasure to welcome you all back again in the future. James

“A great house for our Cambridge reunion.”
Lovely house with very large rear garden and nicely heated indoor pool. An excellent venue for a long weekend for a group of friends. As well as it's proximity to Cambridge, there are some lovely walks in the nearby countryside, including Fleam Dyke.
Response: It was a pleasure to host your reunion some 35 years after you were all at Cambridge University. James

“Such a lovely place to stay near Cambridge”
We hired Beechwood house for a weekend away with the girls, we liked the look of it due to its location, size and having a private pool! Everyone when they got there was amazed - it is absolutely stunning! The size, decor, facilities and location were absolutely perfect for 10 of us - the pool was an added bonus which was a lot of fun! The bedrooms were all really nice and comfortable, everywhere was spotless and it is only about 10 mins from Cambridge in a taxi. There are 4 bathrooms with bath / showers which was fantastic for 10 women! I would highly recommend this house if you are looking for a large group rental in Cambridge! The difference with this house compared with a lot of other rentals is that it has been well looked after by the owner and feels very homely. We will certainly be going back in the future.
Response: Thank you for your kind comments and you will all be most welcome when you come back. James
The house is beautiful and felt like a home from home. There is a real warmth about Beechwood House that makes you feel lots of happy memories have happened in this home. As beautiful and clean as the house is, it thankfully isnt a show-home and you feel you can quickly relax into your stay. This is made even easier by the owner, James's attitude. James was kind and generious and understanding at every turn without ever being intrusive. Little touches like arriving to wine, milk, fresh bakers loaf, a large full fruit bowl and Easter Eggs for our two daughters aged 6 & 4 made us all instantly pleased to be there. This is a practical, spacal home whilst still feeling intimate and full of character. We all loved the pool which was so warm we spent hours playing with the children. The pool is warm enough for babies. The girls ran out in their nighties and wellys on thier first morning and spent ages collecting kindle for our lovely open fire in the lounge (which insidently didnt smoke!) and played hide and seek in the house for hours. We had a magical weekend. The only issue is the wifi doesnt work in every room of the house but James is aware of this and looking into different solutions but it does work in the sunlounge so you can sit overlooking the garden and use the internet and it also works very well in the main bedroom upstairs .... with also overlooks the beuatufil garden.
We all recommend you to choose Beechwood House.
Response: It was a pleasure having you as guests and I'm delighted that you all enjoyed your stay so much and felt the same way about our family home as we do. You'll be pleased to know that the Wi-Fi booster I purchased whilst you were there is now installed and a maximum signal can be obtained anywhere in the house! James

“Luxury at home”
The house had everything we needed for our girls weekend. it was lovely and warm but still lovely to have a real fire going with plenty of logs to use. It wasn't too far to go for some shopping to Cambridge and the village pub food was great.
James was very welcoming and at hand if we needed any help with anything. Would love to come back.
Response: It was so nice to see you all enjoying and using our house to the full, we hope you will come again next year! James

“Fab property, super grounds, open fire, super warm pool!”
Fab stay. All 10 of us arrived on the Friday afternoon in dribs and drabs..... So easy to get to from the Home Counties and London. We arrived early so we went to the local pub (about 100 paces away) and had a great lunch. So good we decided to book for the Saturday night. At Beechwood House we were greeted by the owner James, with a cheery and warm welcome and then a whistle stop tour of the property, grounds and pool before he headed off. We had a open fire every evening, bought loads of drink and food. Filled up and then rapidly emptied the drinks fridge. We all decended upon Cambridge to shop on the Saturday, finshing with cocktails before heading back to the house for the evening. We swam every morning and the pool that was the perfect temperarture. We all think it will be a great house to go back to for a long weekend of even a great UK summer holiday, such great grounds and having the pool, you cant go wrong. Cambridge being so close and with great rail links it is the perfect house to rent. We shall be returning! Fab decor, nice and clean, warm welcoming and very comfortable! all in all a fab stay. Oh and new barns just about to complete if there were more than 10 people wanting to stay we can now take up to 14! Great family or friends getaway! Loved it.
Response: I'm so pleased you all enjoyed your stay at Beechwood House. James
“Thank you for making our stay so special. A beautiful home in the perfect setting”
It was a fabulous house for our 50th wedding anniversary with all our children and grandchildren. The house was friendly abd the grounds and equipment provided could not have been bettered. All of us from 75 to 21/2 had the best four days of our lives!
Response: It was nice to meet you and your lovely family during your visit and I very much look forward to welcoming you all back again in the future.

“Happy Families at Beechwood House”
I selected Beechwood House for its location accomodation and amenities. Ours was a pre-xmas get together for my children and grand children a total of 7 adults and 5 children ranging from 5 to 9. The house easily absorbed the delighted adults and boisterous kids. The lounge areas are extensive and comfortable with a bolt hole for those who want some privacy. The log fire is a winter gem. The dining and kitchen areas are truly huge but always warm welcoming and essentially functional. The pool was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. They woud have loved to tackle some of the other garden activities but winter conditions did not permit. The many comfortable bedrooms soaked up my lot in some style. The kids all felt special mixing in with their cousins. James is most attentive, thoughtful and generous in his hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble to ensure your stay is truly memorable. A truly top of the range experience for our family.
Response: It was a pleasure having you all as guests for your pre-Christmas family get together and I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Beechwood House so much. We look forward to seeing you all again.
