The East Anglia region
This is a beautiful part of England typified by its thatched cottages, half-timbered houses and village greens. There are many splendid churches built during the affluent medieval times when wool production bought great riches to the area.
Gently rolling hills with " big skies" remind one of the work of local artists of the past like John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough.
Cambridge, rich in academic history, with its dreaming spires and meandering rivers is a must- try a chauffered punt.
Saffron Walden is our closest town, full of history with its ruined castle, ancient buildings, museum and beautiful church.Close by Audley End house is open to the public and has beautiful gardens too.
With easy access to the main London train line you can easily enjoy a day / evening in London and be home for supper!
Festivals etc:- Thaxted Music Festival ( Gustav Holst lived here) Cambridge Folk Festival, Evening picnic concerts at Audley End , Thaxted Morris weekend. Rowing Week in Cambridge. Carnivals and concerts all over the area throughout the summer including open air Shakespeare.
