Home description
The Salty Dog (aptly named after the owner's spaniel) offers spacious, immaculately presented accommodation over three floors for up to 7 guests (three bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the games room).
The house, which is furnished in an attractive contemporary style, is very light and airy, particularly the fabulous open-plan sitting room with picture windows to one end and a balcony to the other - a lovely sunny spot for a morning cup of coffee! Another highlight is the sunny, pebbled garden (fully enclosed for the safety of dogs and children) with a decked outside dining area leading directly off the kitchen and a barbecue.
Luxurious touches include Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy white towels and a welcome tea tray. Facilities are provided for babies and children (including cot, highchair, stairgates, socket covers, steam steriliser, paddling pool and toys) and even a box of dog biscuits for four-legged guests!
There is plenty of indoor entertainment provided in the games room including table football, toys, board games, puzzles, books and a TV and video player. There is also a large flat-screen TV with freeview, DVD player and stereo with i-pod dock in the sitting room. For guests who want to bring their ‘toys' with them, the large, secure garage is ideal for storing the likes of surf boards, golf clubs or bicycles and drying wet-suits.
The cottage is part White Sand, a superb, new, village-style development just a few minutes walk from Camber Sands. This two and a half mile stretch of golden sands enclosed by picturesque dunes has become somewhat of a destination and was recently voted number 9 of the 100 Best Beaches in the World by The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

The South East England / Sussex region
Sussex is a fascinating mix of sleek city pleasures, laid-back beach life and unspoilt countryside. It's historic and cutting edge, wild and sophisticated, exotic and traditional, all at the same time. There are wide open spaces from the beaches and cliff tops of the coast to the chalk hills and meadows of the South Downs; narrow cobbled twittens and elegant Regency squares; medieval cottages and fairytale castles; glorious gardens and picturesque old villages. Add to this some thoroughly modern shopping, the best contemporary art and design, stylish bars and restaurants and fun nightlife, and you'll see what makes East Sussex so special. Where else could you relive a Norman battle, visit an Indian-style royal palace, go llama trekking, find a 69m long chalk man on a hillside and dine on a 1920's Golden Arrow steam train, all in one day?
Camber area
Camber Sands beach is a two-and-a-half mile stretch of golden sands enclosed by picturesque dunes only two hour's drive from central London. It is being newly rediscovered as a UK holiday destination of choice and was voted number 9 of the 100 Best Beaches in the World by The Sunday Times Travel Magazine. The unspoilt beauty of the beach as well as its sheer size have made it a popular location for fashion photo shoots and films including doubling as the Sahara Desert in a 'Carry On' film and as the Dunkirk evacuation beaches in several war epics. At low tide the sea can be as much as half a mile from the dunes which makes it a popular location for horse-riding and kite-buggying.
With constant winds coming straight off the sea and from the vast expanse of the Romney Marshes, Camber has become a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts whilst the west winds and shallow sea make it a great place for kite-surfing. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterski-ing, wakeboarding and jet ski-ing are all available locally either from the beach or on a large coastal lake just outside Camber. There is also sailing on the river Rother 3 miles from Camber.
For swimming, the beach boasts a yellow flag award from the MCS, the highest UK award for water quality standards. Golf lovers are well catered for with an impressive 44 courses within a 30 mile radius. Tennis courts and bicycle hire are also available locally. There are many local walks with natural and historical points of interest.
The village of Camber has a couple of pubs including The Dunes café and restaurant, and the award-winning brasserie at The Place offering a range of delicious dishes made from local, free range and organic ingredients. The delightful, medieval town of Rye (4 miles from Camber) also offers an excellent selection of pubs, cafés and restaurants. Alternatively buy and barbecue your own fresh seafood!
Just a few minutes drive from Camber, perched high on a hillside overlooking the River Rother and Romney Marsh is the historic town as Rye. One of five medieval Cinque Ports, Rye is home to many beautifully preserved historic buildings from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. Rye’s enchanting cobbled streets are lined with historic inns and restaurants as well as a host of unusual shops selling antiques, collectables, local produce and works by the town’s many resident artists and potters. The town plays host to many events throughout the year including the famous Arts Festival each September and bonfire parade each November.
Whatever the weather, it is difficult not to be seduced by the beguiling beauty of nearby Romney Marshes, almost as mysterious and lonely as it was in the 17th Century when smugglers swapped local wool for brandy from France. The 100-square-mile marsh encompasses tiny villages, ancient, secluded churches and The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
For something a little different, Camber is ideally situated for day trips to France. A brief 30 minute flight from nearby Lydd Airport takes one to the elegant, French resort of Le Touquet with its fantastic restaurants, vast beach and chic boutiques or in just 2 ½ hours from nearby Ashford International station one can be in Paris in time for lunch!
How to get there
Rye 4 miles. Lydd Airport 6 miles. Romney Marsh 13 miles. Ashford International 21 miles. London 79 miles.
