Rock Lobster is a cosy two bedroom seaside cottage at Camber Sands near Rye. Just a five minute stroll from the dunes and miles of sandy beach, this new property is equipped and furnished to a very high standard and holds a Visit Britain 4* Gold Award. The kitchen is well equipped with quality pans and sharp knives to make preparing a meal a joy. The dining table in the lounge seats 4 comfortably. In fine weather guests enjoy cooking on the Weber gas barbecue and dining al fresco in the sunny fenced garden. You will find no shortage of fresh local ingredients to fire your culinary imagination, whether it is fresh seafood straight from the boats, salt marsh Romney lamb, locally grown vegetables, award wining wine from a local vineyard or local Kentish apple juice, cider or ale.
On a sunny day why not pack a picnic and enjoy some time on the beach. You will find a picnic rug, cool bag with freezer blocks, thermos, wind-break and beach toys at the cottage. The sand is perfect for building sandcastles and the shallow lagoons left by the receding tide, and often warmed by the sun, are the perfect place for children to splash about in.
Located only a few minutes stroll from the magnificent Camber Sands beach, a breath taking seven mile stretch of golden sand backed by picturesque dunes, Rock Lobster is the perfect seaside retreat for couples, small families and friends; the perfect home from home. So whatever the weather, winter, spring summer or fall, romantic break or family holiday, unwind at Rock Lobster. After a long walk on the beach relax in the cosy lounge with a cup of tea (or something stronger). The sumptuous leather sofa, comfy chair and co-ordinating cushions and foot stall are so comfortable; relax and enjoy the 40” TV with freeview and DVD player or listen to music using the i-Pod dock. Rock Lobster has free unlimited wi-fi which is available throughout the cottage.
A holiday is not a holiday without a good night's sleep and you'll love our luxurious beds. Both bedrooms have zip-and-link kingsize beds that can be split into singles, you choose. Whatever your choice you can look forward to crisp hotel quality white bed linen, fluffy white towels and complimentary Sea Kelp toiletries. We have also thought carefully about our younger guests, we have bed guards and cots which can be provided ready for your arrival.
We are parents ourselves we have been on many self catering holidays and so have a good idea of what makes a holiday with a young family fun, relaxing and stress-free. Genuinely family friendly, Rock Lobster is equipped with travel cots, high chairs, dining booster seats, fitted stair gates top and bottom, bed guards, steam steriliser, babies and children's cutlery, plates, bowls and beakers, socket covers, cupboard locks in the kitchen, baby listening monitor, toddler step, potty, changing mat…. as well as indoor and outdoor toys. We can cater easily for twins with two of everything. If you have triplets or more you might like to take a look at our other property The Salty Dog - it's bigger!
Of course, we welcome every member of your family at Rock Lobster and that includes your dogs. Our own dog, Chloe, has worked hard to ensure that the needs of your canine companions are taken care of, including checking that the fenced garden is escape proof. We provide dog bowls and a few toys but ask that you bring your dog's own bed and towels. The beach is a short walk away, less than five minutes when being towed by an eager hound, and even in summer (when certain restrictions apply) there are still miles of sand to be explored off the lead and many seagulls to be chased. On the way back you can call in at the Rye Bay Café or The Green Owl pub, both of whom welcome dogs and offer tasty home cooked food. They will even provide a water bowl for your dog.
Rock Lobster cottage has two similarly sized bedrooms upstairs, each with zip-link beds, a wardrobe with drawers and space for a travel cot if desired, and a lovely, fully tiled bathroom with a rain-shower over the bath (and a hand-held shower for those who prefer not to be drenched). On the ground floor there is the comfortable lounge with double french doors onto the deck and garden, a small but well equipped kitchen and a WC. The fully enclosed garden to the rear is ideal for kids and dogs to play in, or just plain relaxing and taking it easy, and any sports equipment can be stored securely in the shed. To the side of the cottage is an outdoor tap with hose for showering sand of dogs (and kids) after playing on the beach.

The East Sussex region
Sussex has both stunning coastline and beautiful countryside and is rich in cultural heritage and has much to offer its visitors. It is easily accessible from mainland Europe via the channel tunnel and the ideal destination for a short break or holiday with a true taste of England at its best. Rolling hills, chalk cliffs, sandy beaches, English gardens, golf courses, historic castles and country houses, we have it all here in the South East.
Whether is is a bucket and spade family beach holiday, a golfing break, an activity holiday or just a relaxing break you are after, you will find it here.
The cottage is within easy walking distance of a couple of nice restaurants including The Gallivant Bistro and Beach Bar, The Dunes Bar and the Rye Bay Cafe. The local pub, The Green Owl, also serves excellent home cooked meals and a good selection of well kept ales and welcomes children and dogs. There are a couple of small grocery stores in Camber and an excellent farm shop at Salts Farm two miles away.
The medieval town of Rye with its quaint streets and ancient buildings is only 3 miles away. This pretty little hill top town was once the haunt of smugglers and is steeped in history. The cobbled streets are now lined with unique, independent shops, art galleries, artisan food shops, historic inns, restaurants and tea shops. The town also hosts many festivals and special events throughout the year including the famous Rye Bay Scallop Festival each February, a Jazz Festival in August, the Wild Boar Festival at the end of October, the Bonfire Procession each November and a magical Christmas Festival throughout December.
Those with an interest in history will also enjoy visiting some of the many interesting castles and historic buildings within a short drive of the cottage including Bodiam Castle, Hastings Castle, Camber Castle and Battle Abbey.
Garden lovers will not be disappointed either as Great Dixter, Pashley Manor, Sissinghurst Castle, Merriments and Derek Jarman’s coastal garden are all within easy reach.
Camber Sands is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. Kite surfing, sailing, wind surfing, sand yachting, wake boarding, water skiing and jet skiing are all available locally either from the beach or on the large coastal lakes just outside Camber.
Families enjoy days visiting the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway or the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Port Lympe Wildlife Park, Hastings Aquarium and the Smugglers Adventure.
You can ride a steam train, climb a lighthouse, explore caves once used by smugglers, hide it the dungeon of a moated castle, walk on beautiful sandy beaches, picnic in the dunes, wind-surf on coastal lakes, or just relax and unwind. With so much to do in the area it’s no wonder so many of our guests return again and again.
