House | 17 bedrooms | sleeps 30
A secluded hamlet in the hills of northern Tuscany, beautifully restored as an artistic retreat by the late sculptor Fiore de Henriquez. Nestled amongst olive groves, the stone walls are covered with bougainvillea, lemon trees and jasmine and Fiore's sculpture is dotted around the property, both inside and out. A genuinely bohemian atmosphere, but with proper comfort. The houses and apartments are all furnished with an artist's eye very much apparent.
18 bedrooms divided into individual self catering properties, sleeping 2, 4 or 6 with the largest house having four bedrooms and sleeping 8. The smallest accommodation is a studio apartment. All the houses and apartments have well equipped kitchens and their own terrace. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms.
Laura, a local cook who has been part of Peralta since Fiore first arrived, can prepare meals to be heated up in the individual accommodations. This is very popular with people who prefer not to cook and great to come back to at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
Peralta's own olive oil, jams and limoncello can be bought, shopping can be ordered if you are arriving late.
Peralta works extremely well for large groups as everyone can have their own accommodation and be as independent or as part of a group as they choose. We have hosted many a celebration from birthdays to wedding anniversaries; also each year we have a sculpture course, and creative writing course.
Peralta can provide catering at the long communal tables in the dining room or on the terrace under the wisteria for as many people as necessary.
WiFi - in the bar, which reaches nearby rooms.
The swimming pool is up above the hamlet with a panoramic view towards the sea.
There is a large main terrace (with amazing view of course! in the front of Peralta and a communal living room with fireplace for cooler weather. Or you can enjoy a bottle of prosecco on your own patio, soak up the peace and dream about never going home.
We can accommodate groups of any size up to a maximum of 30 people.
A previous guest offered this description of Peralta :
'The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff have a rare quality of being there but conspicuously absent unless needed. This adds to the quietude of the place, giving a feel of personal space and privacy. It has a sense of a well-run hotel, without the formality, and the ambiance of a private villa without the expense. I was fortunate to have cast an eye over a few of the other properties available; all are very well appointed and would not fail to please.
Whether you're wanting to collect your thoughts, explore the region, write a novel, or paint a masterpiece this has to be the place to visit.'

The Tuscany region
Peralta is a hillside hamlet with breathtaking views situated in the northern part of Tuscany (Versilia), on the slopes of the Alpi Apuane (national park), 10 min from the market town of Camaiore which, in turn, is 10 min inland from the coast. The region of Versilia is mountainous with a coastal plain and includes Carrara in the north and Lucca in the south.
To give an idea of some of the interesting daytrips :
LUCCA is a 35 minute drive from Peralta and CARRARA and its marble quarries a 45 minute drive in the other direction.
TheCINQUE TERRE are one hour away - one can drive to La Spezia or PORTO VENERE and visit them by boat - the ferry service is frequent.
Shopping in the area (Lucca/Florence/Forte dei Marmi) is legendary! There is a well known market for clothes in FORTE DEI MARMI every Wednesday morning where people hunt for bargains. The town is also a mecca for designer shopping.
The sculptors' town of PIETRASANTA is only 20 min away from Peralta and has a wonderful square with lots of cafes from which to watch the evening passiagata, also a large choice of restaurants. In the summer evenings the shops and galleries remain open until past midnight. This town is very popular for evenings.
Peralta is ideally situated for the PUCCINI OPERA FESTIVAL (40 min away). This is an open air opera Festival, celebrating different works of Puccini each year and taking place in July and August at TORRE DEL LAGO.
The A12/A11 autoroute exit is just 20 minutes away, making day trips to Siena (2 h), Florence (one and half hours), Pisa, the Garfagnana, the Lunigiana, etc all very easy.
You can drive into the Carrara mountains - or go to the beach - the closest is Viareggio, the most popular Forte dei Marmi (35 min or so).
We have a mountain of information and suggestions for our guests, including directions for walks, when and where local markets happen, brocante markets,' must visit' places and restaurants, our favourite mountain drive, etc
Peralta feels wonderfully remote and secluded and yet is, in fact, very accessible.
In the daytime, there is always someone on site to help with all inquiries regarding day trips, ferry times, advice on this and that.
The town in the valley below Peralta is Camaiore, a quiet and charming market town with few tourists. It takes us 10 minutes to get down to Camaiore by car. The town has a long pedestrian street running down the middle with cafes, fruits and veg shops, butchers, pharmacies, banks, post office, several excellent restaurants, etc. There is a supermarket, two very well stocked wine shops and a fabulous delicatessen in the main street, as well as countless butchers and veg shops! Market day is on Friday.
Pieve di Camaiore is half way between Peralta and Camaiore and has one of the oldest churchs in Tuscany. There are two shops for food - hams, cheeses and other groceries and very fresh fruit and veg. There are two pizzerias, one of which is also a bar and the other a trattoria type restaurant. It takes five minutes to drive down, half an hour to walk but the way back is steep!
