The Corsica region

Corsica, is certainly the most beautiful island on the Mediterranean sea, with beaches like in the Caribbean, mountains like the Alps and old citadels and villages like Italy. Its other strong point is that the island is unspoilt unlike the cote d'Azur or Spain. The Balagne area is certainely the most wild and beautiful area of corsica. You have white sandy beaches with amazing christal water everywhere like Ostriconi, Saleccia, bodri,Revelata, surrended with a beautiful nature .The Balagne area has very old medieval villages, 2000m high montains, big stream where you can swim with amasing rock pool( Fango river protected by the Unesco). The area is also famous for its wine, its roman churches, its GR20,and all the water sport possible. The Balagne is the number one area in Corsica for its olive oil and its oliver trees sometime 1000 years old.
The Calvi area
Calvi between ocean and montains is the birthplace of Christopher Colombus, with its old Citadel, its good restaurants, bars, fashion shops, its wind festival or Calvi on the Rocks music festival. Wind-surf ,stream bathing, water diving, boating, horse riding, mountain climbing. The area is surendered by medieval hilltops villages like Montemaggiore and its olive oil festival, San Antonino one of France most beautiful village,Pigna and its music festival,Lumio and its Roman chapel,Cateri with its covent still inhabited by franciscan religious order,Lunghignano famous for its oil mill, Zilia and its famous spring water and its great forest for walking, the covent of Alzipratu now the name of one of the best wine. The Bonifato forest is beautiful to walk. The GR20 randonnee is stuning , visiting by boat from Calvi the Reserve of Scandola protected by the Unesco is a must. The Fango stream and its rock pool (protected by the Unesco ) is great. The desert of the Agriates is unique to visit with a 4X4 and its Saleccia and Ghignu beaches. The area has the best restaurant of the island like" La Villa"'Two stars at the Michelin," Le Pain de Sucre" on the beach in front of the Calvi citadel with its fresh fish, "L'abricotier" on the Calvi waterfront, 'L'Auberge a Flatta" with its great view, the "Coucou" and its great wines etc...There is also a market in Ile Rousse everyday where you can find fresh corsican foods, Calenzana and its famous corsican cookies, its Sainte Restitude Chapel and its beautiful procession.

location: stunning views, about 20min drive from the very touristy Calvi. Technically on the edge of a small town called Zilia which has a few shops for necessities. Great spot to do a morning trip into calvi or beach for a few hours, then retreat in the heat of the day to fabulous air-con and sensational pool. The view of the mountains is not done justice in the photos. Breathtaking. The place itself it lovely, finished to a high level.Owners are very helpful and relaxed and have great suggestions on what to do and see (the rock pool swimming is a must!. We had friends staying in a twonhouse in calvi which was more expensive and nowhere near as good. If you need to be in the heart of things then perhaps calvi is the way to go - but if you want to relax in a far more beautiful spot a simple drive away this is it! Will definitely try to go again. Impressed with the area of corsica (amazing natural beauty) and the house
Wish we were still there!

This is a wonderful house in a great location! The house itself is top quality, clean and is well-equipped with all the modern accessories we could want. The heated pool was kept warm for us, even in the cool days of late March when we were there. The view from the home really is amazing especially while sitting at the table on the terrace having dinner and enjoying the local wine.
Location and surroundings were ideal. On the one hand we had tall mountains close by and on the other there were nice beaches a short drive away. Then there are all of the small villages nearby to visit and admire the architecture. Calvi is only a 20 minute drive away for larger grocery stores and tourist activities.
We travelled with a young child (1 yr) and found the property suitable for our needs.
The owners were very helpful, friendly and provided loads of useful information about the area! We also can't say enough about the friendliness of the local Corsicans in the area - from the waiter & Chef at a local restaurant to the nearby village doctor who attended to our young child. The locals made every effort to help us and make us feel welcome, even though our French was not the best!
Fabulous place to stay

The house is beautifully finished and was clean and well-equipped with excellent kitchen facilities, perfect for self-catering. We also used the BBQ and sat out on the terrace to eat most nights. The views are spectacular. The owners were very friendly and gave us plenty of information on things to see and do. The house is in a beautiful location near the small village of Zilia, which has a bar and a couple of grocery shops. There is no boulangerie but the bread van arrives in the village square every morning and you can buy fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes. You can get fresh water from the spring just outside the square on the road to Calenzana. There is a shop which makes “Biscuits Corses” which are delicious. Calenzana is a few kilometres away and has a few restaurants, bars and a Spar shop. We would recommend Chez Michel for good Corsican food. Calvi is only 20 mins drive away and there are a couple of supermarkets as well as the smaller shops in the centre of town. Would recommend swimming in the Fango river, a drive along the coast road to Galeria, or if you like a sandy beach go to Calvi. A trip down the bumpy road to Pointe de la Revellata is also worth the effort for snorkelling, swimming and fishing. A beautiful island and top quality villa.
Beautiful villa and great location

Wonderful location on the edge of a picturesque village in the foothills of the mountains with great views but only 20 mins from the beach at Calvi. Lots to see nearby - on edge of La Balagne and close to the start of GR20 walk, plus Calvi and the Fango river for swimming. The people in the village were very friendly - the lady in the small grocer shop opposite the bar arranged for the breadvan to stop outside the gate of the villa every morning on its way into the village so we got first choice of the crossiants delivered to our door.
The house itself is really nicely furnished and has a beautiful terrace with spectacular views as well as a nice garden and pool. The owners are also really friendly and helpful. We would really recommend this villa.
