Home description
Typical of the style of house found throughout the island, Casa Paradis has wooden shutters and tiled floors throughout. The living accommodation is light, spacious and airy, and furnished in a modern, contemporary style. Comfortable and very well-equipped it sleeps up to 8 people (2 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms). It has a lovely private patio garden, perfect for relaxing outdoor dining.
As it is within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, and everything Calvi has to offer, the added expense of car hire is a choice, not a necessity. It's the perfect base for a relaxing self-catering holiday.

The Corsica region
Corsica has superb beaches, lush unspoilt countryside and stunning mountain scenery, but is perhaps best-known for its famous son, Napoleon. The island combines the best of French culture and lifestyle with that of its close neighbour Italy, resulting in a unique fusion which is defiantly Corsican. Refreshingly, Corsica has somehow managed to avoid mass development.
Calvi is on the north west coast, in the Balagne region which has rugged mountains, national parks, beautiful mountain villages and a stunning coastline. Calvi is situated on the southern tip of a crescent-shaped bay backed with snowcapped mountains. The 6km long sandy beach stretches around the bay, and offers a variety of watersports.
Calvi has a chic waterfront and yacht marina lined with restaurants, cafes and bars, and charming cobbled streets and alleys boasting an array of boutiques and delicatessens. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor spent not just one but two honeymoons here, and with very good reason!
Calvi area
Calvi’s main beach is only a 10 minute stroll from Casa Paradis, and beachlovers will not be disappointed. As it’s 6 km long, there’s plenty of room for everyone, and its fine sand and gently-shelving bottom make it ideal for children of all ages.
Restaurants and cafe bars are dotted along the beach, and a variety of watersports, including hobie-cats and kayaking, are on offer. The beach is backed by shady pines and sand dunes, concealing an adventure playground and tennis courts. Only a couple of minutes from Casa Paradis is the secluded and little-known beach Plage Roncu, ideal for snorkelling and exploring.
The marina is where you’ll find several dive schools, yachts offering sailing trips and boats for hire. Other activities available include horseriding, tennis, mini-golf, quad-bike safaris, an aerial assault course and mountain biking. There are some excellent walks, and nature lovers will enjoy the flora, fauna and bird-watching.
The Genoese citadel dates from the 15th century, and there is an excellent audio tour. Art exhibitions are often held in the gatehouse, and concerts featuring traditional Corsican polyphonic singers regularly take place in the church and oratory. The cafes and restaurants on the waterfront are perfect for watching the world go by, and the visiting yachts add a touch of glamour.
The coastline south of Calvi is breathtaking and largely inaccessible by road, so a boat trip to the stunning nature reserve of Scandola, a UNESCO heritage site, is highly recommended. It’s possible to combine this with a visit by boat to the island’s capital, Ajaccio. The Trinighellu train runs from Calvi along the coast to the market town of Ile Rousse and beyond, stopping at several gorgeous beaches along the way. Calvi plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year, such as the Jazz festival, the Polyphonic vocal festival and Festiventu, the ‘festival of the wind’.
How to get there
There are a variety of ways to get to Corsica, and new routes are being added all the time. There are direct flights to Calvi (7 km) and Bastia (92 km/57 miles) on a Sunday from various UK airports - check out ThomsonFly and British Airways amongst others.
Also many of the low-cost airlines fly to mainland France, from where you can take an internal flight - the most popular routes are via Nice, Marseilles or Paris.
The ferry from Nice - Calvi takes two and a half hours. Taxis can be taken from Calvi airport (fare should be no more than 15-20 euros), and we are happy to arrange taxi transfers for you.

“We had a wonderful relaxing time in Corsica and your accommodation was perfect for us. THANK YOU. I certainly hope to come back”
“I just wanted to say thanks for your helpfulness and cordiality in making our holiday in Corsica a wonderful experience. The things we all enjoyed about the house were :- location of the house and its closeness to everything important to us; the advantage of a super little garden with fantastic scents; the spaciousness of the house and quality of the furnishings and kitchen appliances(some good books on shelves too!) We would love to make a return trip some time. Thanks again for the care you showed us.”
“We were very pleased with the house and its wonderful location and we would love to come back. We had a great time and will be happy to recommend your house to anyone we know. My favourite spot was the courtyard which I thought was a magical place to sit and read.”
