The Valenciana region
Calpe has excellent shops and supermarkets with a wealth of restaurants of all kinds. Although we have some favourites, we always say there are no bad restaurants: the competition is too strong for all but the best to survive. Even so, do explore the fishing port area at the side of rock. If you enjoy seafood, you will not find better.
The local morning street markets are excellent for fresh fruit, cooked meats, cheeses, vegetables and flowers. Be prepared to bargain for clothes, watches and a wide range of goods and you will do very well.
Calpe is ideally placed for exploring the Spanish countryside. The Jalon valley runs inland behind Calpe and is the local wine-producing area. There are several bodegas where you can sample the wines of the region. It has excellent pavement cafes, superb restaurants and high-class craft shops.
Drive on through the Jalon valley to find towns and villages at every turn and views to remember.
Take the next valley south to Callosa, through hundreds of acres of citrus groves, and you will find the Fonts del Algar, which you may remember from a hair shampoo advert. You can walk beside (and even bathe in) a series of crystal clear lagoons and waterfalls.
Follow the valley to Guadalest where an amazing castle sits on the pinnacles of a mountain. It is accessible only through a tunnel in the rock face. Flat space is so much at a premium that the church and its bell tower are on different peaks.
Nearby is The Ark, a charitable rescue centre for lions and other exotic animals supported by Queen Sophia.
Shangrila is a small residential community with 2 blocks of duplex bungalows and a few villas. Although only a short drive from the centre of Calpe and its magnificent "talcum powder beaches" (Daily Telegraph), it is on a private road with no through traffic.
As well as our own pool, which is 4 metres by 8 metres, the community pool is available to guests and has a separate shallow children's area. It is a few hundred yards away and is ideal for meeting other residents and their children.
The villa is 1.5km from Blue Flag beaches. Calpe's seafront is unique in being totally traffic-free. Families stroll in complete safety along the beautifully tiled promenade, which is lined with bars, shops and restaurants. The nearest road is hundreds of metres inland. Crossing from beach to restaurants is not the usual dash through traffic. http://webcam.comunitatvalenciana.com/webcamcostablanca-calpe1.htm?id_camara=67 for views, info & weather.

"Lovely villa in a lovely resort"
This villa was just as good as it was described in the advert. The owner was very helpful and the booking was straightforward. The villa had everything we could want including a lovely well maintained pool. The area around the villa was quiet. The resort of Calpe has a long promenade to walk along; the beach is clean and the sea is shallow making it ideal for children [and us older people too]. There are plenty of reasonable priced restaurants - and the steak in the Boomerang restaurant was the best I've ever had. We went to Valencia for the day to see the cathedral, art gallery and oceanographic - but there was more to see - well worth the drive. We also visited the waterfalls 'Fonts de L'Algar' which was a nice place to visit for the afternoon - but I expect it gets very busy later in the season. I have no hesitation in recommending this property to rent.

"Beautiful,peaceful,home from home"
Lovely villa, scrupulously clean inside and out. Pool a good size for a family and very clean. Good poolside eating area. Loved going up onto the roof terrace at the end of the day for a pre dinner drink, soaking up the views. Perfect location for a quiet family holiday. Kitchen well equipped although we used the bar b que to cook on or ate out. It was a good walk into town, but we knew that and were happy to walk there and back. We did use the car when we went to the beach for the day as it is a bit of a trek with all the towels etc. Got up early one day and climbed the Calpe Rock ( Penon De Ilfach) You do need sturdy shoes for the second part, trainers or better. Views all the way to Benidorm and beyond. Although Calpe is near Benidorm it is nothing like it. I have raved about this area and the Villa since we came back and would definitely go back if we chose to go back to Spain.

Cassandra was an enjoyable and relaxing experience. It is a two bedroom villa and has a double bed in one bedroom and twin beds in the other making it suitable for both couples and families. The villa is extremely well equipped and contains comprehensive self catering facilities including microwave, electric oven and gas hob, fridge/freezer and washing machine (located externally). It is possible to access BBC, ITV and some Sky channels on the TV and a DVD is also available. The swimming pool is well maintained and poolside loungers are also provided. The property is located in north Calpe and a car is desirable. It is only a short drive to two supermarkets and to access beach areas. The owner could not have been more helpful and provided clear instructions on how to reach the property. A wealth of local information is also provided including recommendations on walks in the near vicinity.

"Excellent secluded villa. We left totally relaxed.Owners totally trustworthy"
Could not fault anything. No issues which meant we could totally relax.
Location means that transport is preferable but keen walkers could walk to town & beach/restaurants quite easily in 15-20 minutes.
Lidl & Aldi are close by but we ate out on the front by the beach most night.
48 euros was the most paid for 4 of us in total for excellent 3 course menus with wine or soft drinks
Great beach but we stayed by villa pool most days as there areas where you can sunbathe or lie in shadow.
Inside villa was cool during the day so we could rest from the heat when needed.
If we go.back to calpe we will be looking to Villa Cassandra again !!

"Excellent villa, welcoming, clean and in a brilliant quiet location."
My friend and I enjoyed a brilliant week in this villa. The pool and amenities were excellent. The directions supplied also made it a breeze to find. Would thoroughly recommend and booking again for next year.
Puzzled about shower pressure. It is at mains pressure & is normally quite good. Perhaps there was a temporary local problem. However, so pleased you are coming back!
