The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Spain’s southeastern Mediterranean coast (the Costa Blanca) features 170 miles of coast with wonderful safe sandy beaches and inviting blue-green seas. The main tourist resorts are Javea, Moraira, Calpe, Denia, Albir, Benidorm, Villajoyosa and Alicante. The surrounding scenery is mountainous and truly spectacular.
Denia, Calpe and Javea make up the corners of the so-called "Golden Triangle", acclaimed by the World Health Organisation for having one of the best climates in Europe. Denia, like Calpe has Roman origins. It is an important provincial market town with good shops, a long sandy beach, castle and ferry port. Javea is mainly flat, with the Montgo mountain that dominates the view inland. It’s a very pleasant town with nice beaches, good restaurants and an old centre. Just to the north of Calpe is Moraira, a small yet stylish resort with a marina and a choice of two beaches, the main town beach or the smaller El Portet beach backed by a fringe of restaurants which are great for lunch or watching the evening sun go down.
The mountainous, yet green countryside provides fantastic walking country, with well-marked paths through fragrant shrubs and pines. Even if you don’t want to go walking, it’s well worthwhile exploring the area by car. One nice aspect of this part of Spain is that you're never far from a restaurant, often offering lunch on a shady terrace with stunning views. Not that you necessarily need a car to enjoy the Costa Blanca. There’s a charming narrow gauge railway that runs all the way from Alicante via Calpe to Denia, with stations at all the main towns. It’s worth taking a trip into Alicante or slightly further afield to Valencia - both are impressive, vibrant cities with stunning baroque architecture, attractive waterfronts, great shopping and restaurants. The shopping experience in the smaller towns tends to revolve around their thriving local markets where hundreds of stallholders will vie to sell you their freshly picked local vegetable and fruit produce, ceramics, clothes, shoes, leather goods and lots more.
Calpe / Oltamar area
Calpe combines all the attributes that all the other coastal resorts have to offer. By-passed both by the motorway and the N332 main road, it feels pleasantly out-on-a-limb, with no through traffic. The town has an interesting mix of modern supermarkets, traditional groceries, bodegas and chique boutiques. It has two huge and several smaller beaches with long, traffic-free promenades that wind behind them. Walk far enough along beach promenade from the town and you reach the thriving fishing harbour with it's multitude of restaurants offering freshly caught seafood. The imposing Peñon de Ifach, a much-photographed monolith of limestone rock that soars 1,000 feet vertically from the sea, towers above it.
Not to be missed is a stroll around the old town to admire the incredible hand-painted murals, the old castle grounds, quaint cobbled streets and local museums. Calpe has a vast number of bars and numerous reasonably priced restaurants of international and Spanish local cuisine. The traditional Spanish fishing port and the Old Town offer a welcome contrast to the cosmopolitan beach front promenade and the wonderful sandy beaches which extend either side of the Penon. Those who like walking will especially enjoy the wild seaside path through the Nature Park at the foot of the Penon or the more challenging route to the top. Also worthy of note is the signposted 4 hour circuit around the Sierra Olta which you can access directly from the villa.
From Calpe, it's just about possible to see the tower blocks of Benidorm, some 20 kilometres away. Before that, there’s Altea, a charming cluster of white-washed houses and a particularly impressive blue-domed hilltop church and Albir, a smart resort with a white pebble beach.
Tourist attractions and excursions in the surrounding area include the Guadalest Monastery, Algar Springs, Jalon Valley wine tasting, local markets and Vergel Safari Park. At Benidorm, the Terra Mitica adventure theme park, Terra Natura, Aqualandia water park, Mundomar exotic wildlife park and Benidorm Palace (superb dinner show) which are all well worth a visit.
Local sports activities include scuba diving, surfing, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing and paragliding.

Guestbook for Villa Montana Vista
Nikki & Phil, Dorset Review Submitted: July 6, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009 With spectacular views, but only a short drive to Calpe we found this villa ideal. Set in lovely countryside on the mountain with fantastic panoramic views. Enjoyed fantastic barbeques, using the excellent kitchen and barbeque facilities. We had trouble getting the children out of the pool and the villa was spacious enough for them to have fun and us to relax. The villa is fully equipped with quality decor. You can escape the fast pace of modern life and enjoy a top quality relaxing time. Highly recommended.
Paul and Fiona, Stamford, England Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008 Lovely comfortable villa, and met expectations. Located on the slopes of Olta Mar mountain, presenting panoramic views of Calpe and the Penon de Ifach. The location and comfort of the villa suited us perfectly. We walked from the villa along well marked tracks around the mountain. Calpe beaches were within 10 minute drive and we found free car parking spaces very easily close to the clean beaches. We dined in the villa some nights, and sat chatting on the balcony soaking in the views.
Louise, Stoke on Trent Review Submitted: July 28, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008 We had a wonderful time in this villa. It was everything we could have wanted and more. The villa was very clean and well equipped. Everything about our holiday was perfect. Excellent communications with Peter and excellent service from Craig and Wendy. Would not hesitate recommending this villa.
Sean L, Exmouth, Devon, UK Review Submitted: July 15, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008 We had a fantastic time at this villa. The whole place was immaculately presented & very clean. The pool was so warm in July & the perfect size for a family. Amazing views of Calpe etc. The perfect location for day trips out. Far enough from Calpe to be 'away from it all' yet only 5 mins drive into Calpe centre for shopping, beach & restuarants. Comes recommended, deserves 5 Stars.
John and Joyce, Warwickshire Review Submitted: July 9, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008 We have had many villa holidays in Calpe but this villa was truly the best, 5 stars all the way. Breathtaking views, beautiful furnishings, comfy beds, fabulous pool area and BBQ, completely private, not overlooked. 5 minutes drive to main town and beach. We enjoyed the villa so much we have booked it again for out next break.
