The Calpe / Cometa 111 area
The spectacular Rock of Ifach, the symbol of the Costa Blanca, now a nature reserve, soars 322m high and dramatically divides Calpe's two famous beaches and the bustling fishing port. The summit of the rock is reached by means of a tunnel through the rock. From here, magnificent panoramic views can be had. On a clear day, the island of Ibiza is visible.
Calpe boasts 2 superb blue flag beaches which offer extensive water sports/facilities in high season On one side of the famous rock you have the beach, working fishing harbour & marina which is famous for its choice of fish restaurants & on tjhe other a lovely beach, this backs on to a pedestrian promenade which has an plenty of bars/restaurants etc. Calpe old town is beginning to attract more & more visitors with its museum, picturesque narrow streets, shops, bars & restaurants with lively terraces will also tempt the visitor on pleasant summer evenings. Along the picturesque coast road heading north with its abundance of bars & restaurants you come to Moraira with its lovely marina and then on to Javea & Denia (where you can catch the ferry to Ibiza). Approx 25 mins drive south will take you to Benidorm home of Terra Mitica theme park, Aqualandia water park & Mundomar zoo,as well as a number of bars & nightclubs. The port has a nautical club and facilities for yachting, windsurfing and water skiing. If its dry-land sports you want then the rock of Ifach offers climbing facilities. One of the best ways to glimps the local coastline is by means of the narrow guage railway that runs from Alicante to Denia, stopping at Calpe.
Calpe has several tourist information centres, all of which are very helpful and will provide you with information about the whole of the region.
Calpe is also well known for its mild climate & enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Winters are typically very mild with averages hovering around 18°C (64°F).
Cometa 111 is an urbanisation/residential area approx 1.25/1.5 km from the centre of Calpe town, comprising of lovely detached villas. There is a bus stop a few minutes stroll away with a regular bus service. Also within walking distance there is a Swiss Restaurant & the nearby Imperial Park Resort has a restaurant which is also available to non residents.
Calpe Festivals (Fiestas):
The Spanish are famous for their festivals (fiestas), & the town of Calpe has its fair share. There are many fiestas throughout the year, some larger than others. Most are a colourful & vibrant affair, lasting well into the evening & night; some last quite a few days.
Many of the festivals in Calpe correspond to particular periods in the town's history. Here we list some of the more popular (& typically the larger) fiestas to look out for:-
Calpe's festivities kick off with the arrival of the Carnival in February. Marching bands from all over Spain & Europe join together in the town.
March 19th is home to the feast of St. Joseph. Festivities start with a procession winding its way through the streets of the old town, followed by a giant paella in the town square. At midnight effigies of wood & cardboard are burnt to celebrate the beginning of spring, toasted with customary sardines & sangria.
June 24th is host to a midsummer's festival, quickly followed on August 5th by the celebration of Calpe's patron saint La Virgen de las Nieves. There are processions, fireworks, & outdoor parties with lots of food & drink.
On the 21st-24th October the people of Calpe celebrate their patron saint Santisimo Cristo del Sudor, & the Moros y Christianos (Muslims & Christians) fiesta at the same time. The Muslims & Christians fiesta commemorates the expulsion of the Moors from Calpe. It is said that Santisimo Cristo del Sudor helped protect the village as the Moors tried to enter. Therefore 2 battles are re-enacted along the beaches & in a mock castle. In addition many locals celebrate the festivity by way of donning often elaborate costumes & parading through the town streets. As usual there is plenty of food & drink to be had, & fireworks crown the event.

We spent one week in June at Casa Chloe and had a lovely holiday. The house & pool is very well equipped. The pool was lovely and so was the garden. The BBQ was great fun in the evening and whilst the villa isn't particularly close to bars or restaurants we didn't feel the need to venture far as relaxing in the garden by the pool & BBQ in the evening was perfect. Towards the end of the week it did get very hot and we could have done with air con in the bedroom to cool it down for an hour but fans were provided. All in all it was a lovely holiday and I would recommend the villa. We also visited the Barbacoa Restaurant nearby which excellent and within walking distance. |

A very big 'Thank You' to Nick & Sue our family had a fantastic holiday in your villa, May 2010.
The villa has everything you need and more to make your stay very comfortable and it is absolutely spotless. Every little detail had been covered from directions from the airport to the little things like 'how the oven works' which is such a welcome comfort in a foreign country where communication & understanding could be difficult.
The fabulous pool, outside bar and BBQ was a big hit with our family and we enjoyed many days & evenings relaxing & enjoying these luxury additions to the villa.
Calpe is such a beautiful place, lots to do and places to explore for all ages. Many restaurants at very reasonable prices, 2 local beaches which are beautiful, and gorgeous scenic drives to go on. We played tennis at the local tennis club, only 3mins drive away, very reasonable prices and great facilities.
It was such a bonus that Nick & Sue had provided details of all this in the villa and also lots of other information on other great places to enjoy around the area. The villa is located perfectly to get out and about in good time and without difficulty finding your way. We would recommend the villa without any hesitation.
We had a fantastic family holiday and glorious sunshine too everyday!
A holiday we'll always remember. Thank you x Higgins family Chorley, Lancashire : May 2010
