The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Calpe's fishing port comes alive with hustle and bustle as the afternoon fish auction draws near. Restaurant terraces fill up with lively crowds anxious to try some of the fresh local shellfish. The town centre preserves the remains of a small fort from the 16th century, called the Torreon de la Peca. There is also a Gothic-style parochial church worth visiting, with Mudejar additions. From the chapels of Cometa and Salvador there is an attractive view.
Calpe old town: Ample evidence of Calpe's rich history in murals, monuments and museums. Picturesque narrow streets with cafes, restaurants and bars tucked away. For some years running in the summer, the Arts and Crafts Fair is held in the Old Town centre of Calpe every day except Mondays. During June to September, the Calle José Antonio and the Plaza de Espana will present a lively scene in the evening, not only artists and craftsmen by putting up their stands but there are also workshops and live entertainment as well as an art exhibition.
