Things to discover in this fascinating area include Silbury Hill, the highest man made mound in Europe; Avebury’s famous stone circle at Avebury, and the glorious house and gardens at Bowood on the edge of Calne. Lacock, with its charming National Trust village and abbey, the nearby Kennet and Avon canal that offers delightful boat trips, and the thriving city of Bath are also easily reachable.
