The West Country / Cornwall region
The Tamar Valley area is really beautiful and very popular. The major city is Plymouth but many interesting towns are in the area. Bodmin Moor is not far away and Dartmoor makes an interesting day out.
In addition the Eden Project is not far away plus nearby Calstock has train and river cruises down the River to Plymouth.
Also inland is Buckland Abbey, Kit Hill and a steam railway at Launcester. Fishing is available in the River Tamar and nice beaches are to be found at Whitesand Bay and west of Looe.
The area has so much to offer it is not a surprise that it is perhaps the UK's most popular tourist region.
Callington area
Callington is a small town between Saltash and Launceston on the A388. Callington is a ancient Market town with a population of about 5000. The town is well know amongs the wandering toursits, following the mural trail.
Back in the 18th century this little town has been one of the most important minig areas in the UK as well as the place to dig for ...silver in the famous Silver Valey. Who knows. Maybe you can find some.
There are many interesting shops connected with the towns history and culture, a few pubs and reastuarants.
Nearby is the lovely town of Tavistock and to the south west is Liskeard. Both these are worth a visit. Dobswell Adventure Park is a fun day out or why not visit the Jamaica Inn Museum.
How to get there
The village of Callington is on the A388 coming South from Launceston on the A30 or North from Saltash on the A38.
