About this location
The Cornwall region
In the heart of glorious countryside yet just a few miles from the coast, the vibrant city of Plymouth and rugged Dartmoor. This popular holiday home has a welcoming atmosphere that brings guests back year after year.
There are lots of different attractions, great beaches, walking and cycling rides. Professionally supervised outdoor pursuits including canoeing, climbing and abseiling can be organised.
Nearby is the National Trust owned Cotehele House and Quay, a well preserved Tudor manor house on the banks of the River Tamar. Cotehele has a series of formal gardens near the house, a richly planted valley garden, a Victorian summerhouse and an 18th century tower with fine views.
There are two championship golf courses nearby. St Mellion is the leading venue in Cornwall for golf, this famous West Country golf resort is considered the finest venue for golf in Cornwall and as one of Europe's premier resorts for both golf and leisure.
The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall's far west.
The rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lynher, forms one of the last, unspoilt drowned valley river systems in England.
The neighbouring village of Calstock has train and river cruises down the Tamar Valley to Plymouth. Park and ride, and enjoy a day exploring the National Maritime Aquarium, the waterside bars and restaurants as well as the other historical attractions of this famous nautical city.
Transcendent Lodge is just one mile from the picturesque villages of Harrowbarrow, St. Anns Chapel and Metherell, which all have a selection of shops, local amenities and pubs, there is also the scenic Tamar Valley Railway with regular services along the river-bank to Plymouth.
There are several typically Cornish villages nearby together with the popular towns of Callington approximately 4 miles distant and the market town of Tavistock approximately seven miles distant with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Callington has a wide variety of eating establishments, there are several take-aways and cafes, historic public houses that provide food and a selection of restaurants, some of them having won national awards. The nationally famous Ginsters provide the traditional Cornish pasty but cuisine in the town also includes Chinese, Indian and Malaysian/Thai.
St. Ann's Chapel is a small village situated approximately one mile from Gunnislake where there are good shopping facilities and traditional pubs. There is also a railway station less than one mile away with a regular train service into Plymouth city centre.

"Quite a few problems but eventually a nice stay"
We had problems when we arrived on a Friday for a week' stay, and though Kris the owner was helpful, the increasing frustrations getting them sorted left a sour taste unfortunately for the rest o… More
There isn't an option to be specific about Wifi on this listing (other than a check box to say it is available). We have changed the ad to reflect where on the holiday site the WiFi is available until we can arrange for it to be available from inside the lodge.
With the dishwasher, maintenance had turned the water to the appliance off to prevent freezing/burst pipes over Winter. This hadn't be relayed back to me, the owner, so a little mis-communication, but otherwise, it is working fine. Bearing in mind this happened over the Christmas holiday, it was hard to find a willing engineer, but we did manage it. It was the engineer who told me that he was told by the guests he would not be needed and not to attend.
Regarding the TV aerial and Freeview box. There had been an electrical storm the previous night and it fried the aerial and box. New ones were supplied of course, but as you can appreciate, this takes a couple of days to sort out and we were apologetic about this... It was around Christmas Day and Boxing Day period.
As the owner, I am always available to help guests resolve any issue they have and I try my utmost to do it as quickly as possible. Fortunately there is rarely any issue at all, but when there is, I will bend over backwards to help the guest out.

Concerning the instructions mix-up, unfortunately this guest did not receive an email that automatically gets sent to them from Holiday Lettings after they pay the balance. The email is fairly important as it provides a post code and helpful details of how to access the lodge on arrival.
As owner of this lodge, we have noticed that some emails did not automatically get distributed to guests after they paid the balance (as they should), so we have been trying to send them manually when we notice this happening. It seems to be a technical issue and we have alerted the holiday lettings website team to the problem. This should be resolved for future guests.

"Poor service from the owner"
Reported the fact that the dishwasher and freezer did not work when we entered the property on Monday. No one came until Thursday to look at it. The owner believed the matter to be too trivial to warr… More
We responded immediately to this guest on the evening they arrived. It is true the dishwasher was not working and had only just been reported as such to us. It was simply not possible to have a dishwasher engineer come out so quickly to a remote location during their four-night stay.
As for the freezer, this was working but the guests switched it off (the guests that stayed following them reported no malfunction). The orange light does come on if the freezer temperature falls below normal levels, which can happen when housekeeping have the door open cleaning it prior to guest arrival.
Sadly, these guests were trying to extort compensation from us or the threat of a negative review would be left. We did not feel that a faulty dishwasher warranted a refund in this particular case. Please look at the other reviews to gauge a complete picture of our lodge. We are always cheerfully available to help guests. Thank you.

"Superb premier lodge in beautiful countryside"
We're always a bit mindful of blindly booking a holiday place after a previous bad experience, so we try to help others by writing a review of every new encounter! No such bad experience here, Transcendent Lodge was magnificent and we can happily recommend it.
The lodge was clean throughout, in very good order. Nothing can be as spotless as we have our home (very fussy we are), but this lodge was close enough and well above average. The hot tub was heaven.
The staff were incredibly helpful. There was no WiFi at first, and my husband needs this. One quiet word with the reception staff and we had it within the hour. Lovely bar and the swimming pool was refreshing too!
Wait... Did I mention the hot tub? Glad we paid a bit extra to have this lodge over others on the site that were a little less expensive. It was definitely worth it as we saw some of the others that didn't have hot tubs or balconies.
Will definitely come here again and will stay at this lodge again too.
