The Cornwall region

In the heart of glorious countryside yet just a few miles from the coast, the vibrant city of Plymouth and rugged Dartmoor. This popular holiday resort has a welcoming atmosphere that brings guests back year after year. With excellent on-site amenities and several nearby visitor attractions.

Honicombe holiday park provides an excellent base to explore this fascinating area. There are walking and cycling rides nearby. Professionally supervised outdoor pursuits including canoeing, climbing and abseiling can be organised.

Located just 2 miles from Honicombe is The National Trust owned Cotehele House and Quay, a well preserved Tudor manor house on the banks of the River Tamar. Cotehele has a series of formal gardens near the house, a richly planted valley garden, with a medieval dovecote and stewpond, a Victorian summerhouse and an 18th century tower with fine views.

There are two championship golf courses within easy reach at St. Mellion International Hotel, Golf and Country Club. St Mellion is the leading venue in Cornwall for golf, this famous West Country golf resort has hosted the Benson & Hedges International on six occasions, firmly securing St Mellion's position as the finest venue for golf in Cornwall and as one of Europe's premier resorts for both golf and leisure.

Morwellham Quay is an award winning visitor centre set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Step into the Victorian world, wander into port-workers' cottages or a miners hovel and wonder how they lived. Visit the museums, workshops and Chandlers' Shop to complete the picture, there is also a Victorian farm and nature reserve.

The Kit Hill Country Park is within 2.5 miles, providing moorland walks, landmarks of historic interest and panoramic views. Located between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, this wild, rugged granite hilltop is famous for its fine views and fascinating history as well as its flora and fauna. With 400 acres, Kit Hill is the most dominant landscape feature in East Cornwall.

The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall's far west. Positioned amongst beautiful scenery on the wooded banks of the River Tamar, in The Tamar Valley, bordering Cornwall and Devon, one of the most beautiful and historically significant areas in the UK. In 1995, the Tamar Valley was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty making it one of 40 in England and Wales.

The rich and diverse landscape of The Tamar Valley covers around 75 square miles (195 square kilometres) and along with the rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lynher, forms one of the last, unspoilt drowned valley river systems in England.

The neighbouring village of Calstock has train and river cruises down the Tamar Valley to Plymouth. Park and ride, and enjoy a day exploring the National Maritime Aquarium, the waterside bars and restaurants as well as the other historical attractions of this famous nautical city.

Honicombe is just one mile from the picturesque villages of Harrowbarrow, St. Anns Chapel and Metherell, which all have a selection of shops, local amenities and pubs, there is also the scenic Tamar Valley Railway with regular services along the river-bank to Plymouth.

There are several typically Cornish villages nearby together with the popular towns of Callington approximately 4 miles distant and the market town of Tavistock approximately 7 miles distant with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants.

Callington has a wide variety of eating establishments, there are several take-aways and cafes, historic public houses that provide food and a selection of restaurants, some of them having won national awards. The nationally famous Ginsters provide the traditional Cornish pasty but cuisine in the town also includes Chinese, Indian and Malaysian/Thai.
