About the home

Accessed over its own little wooden bridge, Tenda is a one-bedroom apartment which has its own kitchenette, a brand-new and tastefully furnished bathroom and a large balcony. Its crowning glory, however, is its floor-to-ceiling opening glass wall at the front which gives unbelievable views to the sea - even while lying in bed!! To sit on Tenda's balcony enjoying a meal with a glass of Madeiran wine is an experience to be savoured. You will love it!

The property is accessed through electronic security gates (although security is not an issue!) and there is a parking space for each holiday home.

As you lounge around the 9m pool, surrounded by manicured gardens and banana plants, you will suddenly realise something that will take your breath away, because you are 300m above sea level, you can see the curvature of the earth!

Conditions

Calhau Grande will inform you, in writing (e-mail), the availability and confirmation of the reservation as well as all the conditions of the reservation.

The reservation will only be considered definite after the reception of a deposit (20% of the full payment) by bank transfer which should be made promptly after confirmation of availability from Casa Calhau Grande.

The remaining 80% is paid when checking in, being cash the most convenient.

To cancel a reservation, this must be communicated in writing (e-mail) at least 20 days before check in.

The Madeira region

House Tenda, in Calhau Grande, is located on the west side of the Island of Madeira, in the town of Calheta, in the village of “Arco da Calheta”.

It is about 45 km from the airport (45 minutes) and 30 km from Funchal (30 minutes).

It has a 180º view over the Atlantic and is excellently located, close to the sea (7 minutes from Calheta Beach) and mountains (15 minutes from Rabaçal), where you can easily explore the maritime coast, the levadas, the mountains and the "Laurissilva" forests, through scenic passages by car, de motorbike, bicycle or by foot.

The Calheta / Massapez area

To explore the Island of Madeira and appreciate its landscape, the best way is to try its roads and paths.

The trails and levadas lead the visitor to the Laurissilva Wood, forest distinguished for UNESCO as World-wide Natural Patrimony. These admirable passages are accessible to all, having, however, some varying degrees of difficulty, for which we advise seeking previous attainment of information.

In Calheta, culture is one of the concerns of the town hall. In this district there are the following libraries:
-Municipal library of Arco da Calheta

-Municipal library of Jardim do Mar
-Municipal library of Paul do Mar
-Centre of Arts and Congresses of Calheta: "Casa das Mudas"

Calheta offers conditions to practise varied sporting activities (Pedestrian Circuits, Paragliding, Motor rally, Motor Cross, Football etc).

The town takes advantage of some infrastructures for the effect:

-Associação Desportiva e Cultural da Ponta do Pargo
-Clube Naval da Calheta
-Estrela da Calheta Futebol Clube

Arco da Calheta, more exactly Achada de S. Antão with its flaring descending to Madalena do Mar, which is in the island a favourite place and recognized for, at international level, Paragliding.

The new marina offers excellent conditions for the nautical sport (canoeing, sailing, jet skis, sports fishing, surfing, etc).

Madeira has achieved international fame as an elected place for game fishing, for the wealth and quality of species.

Jardim do Mar is on the island a place well known and recognized at international level, for practising Surfing.

Clube Naval da Calheta is an association that stimulates nautical sport and develops activities at the sea (competitions, courses, regattas, etc).

A volcanic origin of the Island of Madeira and its irregular landscape give the lovers of adventure unique moments, of rare beauty in direct contact with the nature, as is in the case of climbing.

Leaving the airport, follow the expressway in the direction of Funchal - Ribeira Brava - Ponta do Sol - Arco da Calheta. There is a roundabout, follow the direction Ledo. Turn left onto "Rocha de Gouveia" Street. 1 km ahead on your right, there is a sign stating "Calhau Grande", which points the way to the car park of the cottages.
