Madeira’s system of irrigation channels, known as levadas, carry water down from the mountains on gentle gradients. These levadas provide a ready-made system of trails. There are 1300 miles of them, criss-crossing the island.

The Calheta area

Calheta is a coastal town with 2 golden sandy beaches. The apartment is approximately 45 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Funchal.
The self catering apartment in Madeira is in within easy reach of many of the islands attractions.
The area is an excellent place to experience Levada walks. These can either be self guided or arranged as part of a group excursion. Rabacal is an area which is popular with walkers but rarely crowded. To get to Rabacal guests need to drive about 10 minutes to the top of Paul du Serra.
For those who would like to visit the regions capital, Funchal, this is within easy reach.
