"Lovely Villa, very Spanish area"
Have just returned from Calle Poniente and we had a perfect time in wall to wall sunshine.
It was a treat to swim in pool with beautiful parrots flying above us. The residential area was very peaceful, yet very friendly.
Found wonderful restaurant, with a large selection of food and very friendly staff. They spoke no English which added to the experience and were even friendlier after Spain had won - 'A Por Ellos oe'.
Lots of local towns to discover with historical beauty - was helped by literature left in villa and our own adventure in discovery.
Welcome pack and Sue's help was appreciated, as was Sue's help in other matters when required. Diego was also very friendly in his Spanish way, was cleaning most mornings yet discreet and even helped with hot water problem despite language barrier.
The villa was great but we spent little time inside as weather was so good (only spent 30p on air con in bedroom!!). We enjoyed watching Euro's on balcony whist still in sunshine and a glass of bubbly before night out.
We would recommend this to anyone who want to see real Spain and experience where the locals holiday.

"True Spainish resort at its Best Wonderful villa with private pool."
True Spanish resort with a great family welcoming atmosphere.Comes alive at night with street market and a wide range of places to eat.
Beaches clean and close to the villa.
Close to amenities and bars and restaurants.
Villa was ideally furnished, and the outdoor pool area was lovely, very private and sun trap.We would recommend a car if hiring this property to make it easier getting to all facilities, but also for exploring the coastline and spanish villages inland.

"Lovely villa in a quiet location"
I have stayed in this part of Spain on several ocassions. The villa is set in a lovely quirt area, yet still very close to the bwach and ameneties. The villa itself is very nicely furnished in a typical Andalusian style. Plenty of room and a lovely pool and subathing area.

we booked this villa for 2 weeks at the begining of august the weather was mid 30s every day for the duration of the holiday which ment the children spent most of the time whilst at the villa in the pool which is of a decent size the villa itself is spacious and nicely furnished with a nice raised terrace to sit on in the evenings. when not at the villa visited nearby towns a short drive up the a7 such as torrox nice beach and nerja historical with several small inlet beaches the area is typicaly spanish and having had holidays in this area before i would recommend this villa as a ideal place to stay and for anyone travelling to this area of spain to do some homework before travelling as we were still finding things of interest right up to the end of our stay.

"very nice but small details let it down"
Have just returned from Calle Poniente and had a very enjoyable holiday with our four teenage children. There are some good points and a few diappointing points I would highlight. The good points are: nice villa, especially the sitting room/dinning room and it was nice to sit in there with the air conditioning, as this is the only room that has it, to cool off to eat and to watch TV as there is a very nice L shaped sofa which we could all fit on comfortably. It is quite a private villa, there is one house next door that could over look you but I did not ever see anyone. It is in a very quiet location overlooking rough land with many wild cats and lots of noisy parrots, I have to say the view is not wonderful, but it is OK. To one side you can just see the sea.
Maurio was very nice, he came to see us on our first day to tell us a few bits of info, and was very kind as I was not feeling well and he told us some local information.
The disappointing areas: We were greeted at the villa by Diego, the builder, who cannot speak a single word of English and jabbers on in Spanish believing that you can understand every single word he says!! This is OK to a point but it was frustrating at times.
The pool: was not desperately clean, It is a good size and adequate for six of us, we managed to play volleyball type games so the size was OK. Each morning there were clusters of green algae type stuff which we managed to get most of it out with the net and at the deeper ends you could see definite dirty patches. Diego came once to top the pool up, but because of the language barrier we felt it was hopeless to ask him to clean the pool which we might have done had he understood us. The pool was very warm though heating by the sun which was perfect.
The villa: as said before the sitting room was nice, the kitchen was adequate. We were a little disappointed not to find a single basic food item for use, i.e. salt, pepper, sugar, oil, washing up liquid etc, and I know a lot of villas do not leave anything but we have stayed in some where they do leave those kind of things and ask that if you use them you replace what you use and this is fine. I had to go and buy several items, could only buy them in large sizes and had to leave them half used, knowing that the next holiday makers would not benefit from them and would have to do the same as me. We actually went to visit a villa we are renting next June in La Herradura and I made a point of asking what was left in the kitchen, and it was packed with loads of things so that will be really nice.
The bedrooms are basic, I did think I had read that they had air conditioning but they do not, you need to use the fans provided all the time and we found that if we kept the windows shut and the air conditioning in the sitting room on full it did eventually spread through the villa and after a couple of days it felt quite cool and more pleasant to sleep in. The beds were quite comfortable.
The bathrooms are not so nice, they need up dating and the showers are poor with grotty shower curtains. The loo brush in one bathroom was disgusting.
Information: I think this is the first property we have ever stayed in where there was no written information or maps or brouchers available. We only had the typed three sheets of information sent to us from the villa owners. This we found very disappointing as it is really helpful to have printed info to hand. Also a visitors book would have been nice, because quite often people leave you their ideas of good and bad things which is great. My daughter had an ear infection during our holiday and because we had no written information concerning doctors we had to ring Maurio who advised us to take her to the hospital. They do not seem to have 'GP's as such, so we sat in the local A&E department for over an hour with lots of locals with various ailments. She was seen and given antibiotic drogs and we did not have to pay and she improved quite quickly so that was a satisfactory outcome.
Additional to this, in the promotional details on the website about the villa it said it had a playstation 2, which I thought would be great for the kids and told my son to take some playstation 2 games with him, but alas once in the villa he could not find the controls for the playstation, so was unable to use it. So if you want to use it take your own controls. Also there is Sky TV and if you take your own Sky card from home you will have access to many more stations, but they do not tell you this in the details. I really thought the villa may have had some board games or playing cards etc as it is a family villa but there are none and as a family who like to play games with the kids on such occasions this was a little disappointing, but we made up for it by watching TV and it was nice to have this.
Outside area: There are five loungers, so not quite enough for all of use and a very small square plastic table and four chairs, so again not enough for six people which seems odd when the villa sleeps 6. We had to bring two kitchen chairs down to the outside table to use when we all wanted to sit outside. There is shade provided via a canape so you do not need individual umbrellas.
Local area: I have to say, we were all a little diasappointed by Caletta and Torre del Mare, we spent a long time one evening trying to find somewhere to eat so the other two times we went out for the evening we headed off to Nerja where we have stayed before and spent two very good evenings there where there are lots of restaurants and shops, ideal for the kids. We did not walk into town as it was very hot every day, well up to 30 degrees or hotter and felt that it was a bit too far in such heat.
So all in all nice, but it could have been better.
I'm glad you had an enjoyable holiday and sorry to hear that you were disappointed with some aspects.
We have taken on board your comments, as this was the first year of this properties Rental and a few of the procedures needed to be addressed.
We have taken on the services of an English speaking property management company, who will now meet and greet all new visitors, show you around, leave tea coffee, bread etc for each new visitor and they have also created a visitors information pack with vouchers and tokens for money off etc at local attractions. They will attend to any maintenance and also offer a collection and return service to the airport or anywhere else you wish to go (for an additional fee of course). They also do an inventory check in between each let, so if the play station controls go missing again, as happened on your stay then this will be noted and they will be replaced. We feel this will address a lot of the issues you faced.
We have had major works done to the pool this winter and a repair was needed and has been done, and a management company will be keeping a close eye on the new pool maintenance company for us.
The Bathrooms have had new fittings, although the suites have not been replaced and now look allot fresher.
Air Conditioning is to be fitted throughout this year.
We have provided a larger outside table new and lots of outside chairs, and an extra lounger too.
I am surprised however that you were disappointed with Caleta and Torre Del Mar, I have been holidaying there since 1993 and now it very well and class it as my second home. There are well over 200 restaurants of all types of food on offer, with a beautiful promenade along the beach, marbled and lit at night do that you can walk along from Caleta to Torre Del Mar. The area is very Spanish though and some people do struggle with that, but that is what I love about it, you can experience a holiday in Spain surrounded by the Spanish, have true "Tapas" in the lovely fish restaurants with your cerveza, for 1 euro get a drink and a nibble of food and drink in the atmosphere, there are Fiesta's on all throughout the year and the Spanish all appear on the streets with their oxen and horses and the girls all dresses up, the locals are friendly with lots of little quaint coffee bars, or ice cream parlours where the families with 3 generations will be eating ice-cream at 4am in the morning in the hotter months. It's a beautiful place and I feel it's a shame that you missed its charm. Thank you for your feedback; it has helped us to improve our villa.
