The Fuerteventura region

Fuerteventura has 285 km of coastline. Unlike the rest of the Canary Islands, the shores are generally low-lying empty beaches and are perfect for any kind of water sports or just strolling in the warm temperatures thanks to the fresh trade winds.

The windmills, dotted all over Fuerteventura, except in the area of Jandia in the south, are faithful testimony to its farming tradition, and are now being restored as tourist centres.

The outstanding landscape includes National Parks like the stunning Dunes of Corralejo and the islet of Lobos in the north. This is a small island with a population of one - the lighthouse keeper! If you like diving don't miss this place, it's one of the best spots in the Canaries to let loose.

Fuerteventura wraps you in its soft gentle ways.
Its sandy beaches blend with volcanic landscapes of immense flats and low volcanic cones.

Fuerteventura is the last of the Canaries to embrace tourism and therefore, lessons learnt from the sister islands and the local strict building regulations in place mean that this beautiful landscape and scenery will not be ruined by overdevelopment.

Infrastructure:
The International Airport is top quality and very well connected with mainalnd Spain, the other Canary Islands and continental Europe as weel as the UK and Ireland.
Fuerteventura has an excellent all new road system, is well sign posted and petrol is much cheaper than Europe and certainly the United Kingdom.

Caleta de Fuste / Montana Blanca area

Caleta de Fuste or Costa Caleta as it is now known, is the most upmarket resort in Fuerteventura. From desert landscapes of its sand dunes and volcanic past to fabulous golf courses, from diving to kite-surfing and beyond! There is something for everyone.

The harbour is a perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon, watching the world go by.
There is an oceanarium in the harbour area and a submarine and catamaran, where trips can be arranged for a spot of dolphin or whale watching or exploring the under-sea world of the Canaries. An enormous mini-golf facility (to get you in shape for the real thing) and tennis courts are only few meters away from a beautiful golden sandy beach.
The harbour is also home to many yachts, catamarans and boats which provide local trips as well as offering a beautiful backdrop in the evenings so you can sit back in one of the cafes or beach bars and relax enjoying the sea view.

Those wanting to be a little more adventurous can go diving, hire jet skis or learn to windsurf at the water centre on the beach.

...and don't forget the market every Saturday morning!

GOLF COURSES
For those of you with a passion for golf, just on the southern edge of the town of Costa Caleta is "Fuerteventura Golf Club".
Designed by Juan Catarimeau and completed during 2002 it is the only championship golf course on the island.
The course is an 18-hole, par 71 and hosted the Spanish Open in 2004.
It has a superb 50 bay driving range with a large practice green and chipping as well as bunker practice areas.
The course bends its way around three lakes and a connecting stream, all of which come into play. It is quite challenging and all the more so when the winds are up.

Golf clubs can be hired in the pro-shop for £10.
The course has buggy paths and buggies are also available for hire.
The pro-shop and changing facilities form part of the Elba Palace Hotel which is a luxurious 5 star hotel with excellent dining and bar facilities.

You could walk there in just over 20 minutes from Montana Blanca but with your golf clubs a ten minutes taxi trip might be more appealing!
On the way back you might want to stop at the Atlantico Shopping Centre or just sit down in the island first and only MacDonald's!!
If you are too tired to walk back, a taxi-ride back will cost you approximately 3 euros.

A second course named "Las Salinas" has been completed recently.
The course is made of 18 holes, par 70 and designed by Manolo Piñeiro, twice world champion.
The Golf Club´s landscape is formed by hills and dunes, which protect from the wind. There are also desert areas and four lakes with a surface of 21.450m2.

BARS & RESTAURANTS
Costa Caleta offers plenty for all ages. There are good bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets to suit everyone's taste and budget.
There is a truly cosmopolitan feel to dining in Caleta. All tastes are catered for in the resort's wide variety of restaurants from Chinese to Portuguese, from Italian to Mexican or Greek to Sri Lankan, not forgetting Spanish of course!!

BUSES
Contrary to popular belief, travelling around Fuerteventura by bus is reliable and cheap.
Most buses are on time and if you've left your driving license at home this is a good alternative.
For up to date routes, prices and timetables you may check the Bus Company's website www.tiadhe.com.

FERRIES
Ferries link Fuerteventura to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria & Tenerife. There are three main ferry companies that service Fuerteventura:
Transmediterranea at www.transmediterranea.net
Fred Olsen at www.fredolsen.es
Naviera Armas at www.navieraarmas.com

INTERNAL FLIGHTS
Internal flights to and via other Canary Islands, Madeira, Morocco and mainland Europe are available through the local airline "Binter Canarias". Their website is www.binternet.com

CAR HIRE
Anyone who is over the age of 21 and has had a driving license for more than 3 years can rent a car upon presentation of a driving license and passport (although these rules are not strictly adhered to). The national speed limit is 90Km/Hour. Compared with Europe, the UK and Ireland rental prices in Fuerteventura are pretty low. Motorbikes, Trikes and bikes rentals are also available for your "busy" week ends with friends.
If you really want to discover the heart of the island or enjoy a different beach every day (there are over 150 of them!) then this is the only way.
We recommend "TopCar" www.top-car-hire.com
